Default learning the hard way

Ouch! ... so I was shopping for shoes, and Im so stuuuupid lol. I knowww i need a wide toebox and harder sole for toe support.. but what did i do?

I bought a pair of very nice Red and black Puma's

THese shoes are so freaking skinny with a paperthin sole. i wore them for 3 days.

now its 2 weeks later and i have the worst metatarsalgia ive ever experienced.

the bottom of my *toe knuckles* are like bruised or something when i wake in the morning and take my first steps its like little marbles underneath my feet ... hurrrrts. ive been using traumeel like crazy and its helping...

Walking to school sucks .. i ahve to walk all day ... soooo frustrated withmyself.

I have switched to a very expensive pair of new balance. (not as stylish) lol.

I hope this clears up soon... i cant afford to just sit around for 2 weeks non weight bearing. thats impossible.

just thought id share so if you see that nice pair of shoes and you know you shouldnt... dont

I did this with Nike Shocks, I thought they would be great!! Mistake, 2 days later I ended up in the Drs office with one shoe on and one shoe off, my foot felt like it was on fire, toes curled under and the pain in my leg was unbareable.

Shoes are critically important for PNers with foot pain.

It takes me a LONG time to find a comfortable shoe or slipper these days.

I cannot find durable slippers anywhere. And to illustrate this,
I bombed out at Famous Footwear 2 weedends ago.
But last week we went to a super WalMart (it is a modest drive to it), and they have no benches to rest thru out the store! And I need to sit down for a few minutes after 1/2 hr of walking, so I dragged myself over to the shoe department which had tiny sit down areas for the shoes. Right across from me were a whole wall of slippers! How timely! LOL

So I tried some on. I have this instep problem with my left foot, which had the operation, and now big scar, and in the last 2 years it has become very sensitive if anything hits it a certain way. Well, I found a pair of men's memory foam slippers with good traction, that worked for me! $11 . I had to get a "large" which is not good for stairs, as the tips tend to trip me. So I change into my sandals to go up and down, but wear the new ones around the house. The swelling in that left foot has gone down over the summer, so I hope whatever set it off, is over and it will be more normal. All the doctors and podiatrists I've shown it to, give me a blank look since the surgery was done 50 yrs ago and was for a rare thing. No answers are forthcoming on it, so all I can do for now is pick footwear that does not aggravate it!

I haven't worn a fashionable shoe in over 20yrs now. The nicest I have is a black Arcopedico slip on.

New Balance and (cheaper) Dr Scholl's walking shoes
(w/Velcro closures)
have been my choice for over 5 years, now.

yeah, I cant stand not finding a place to try ont he shoes in some stores lol.

My NB cost me 180$ they are expensive in canada.. however, the second I put them on I knew they were the right shoe.

What a difference, they are their Hiking shoe but the rep at the store told me eveyrone who buys Hiking NB wears them as a daily shoe lol. anyway the bottom sole on mine are super tough so i dont feel the peebbles and they have a slight rocker so helps.

Also, the heel isnt elevated above the toes and the toe box is Wide! i cant believe how hard it is to find a freaking shoe that has a wide Toe Box..

i got the new balance that Bob uses with the velcro straps and put in a pair of Dr. Scholls inserts for diabetics and it is much more comfortable than any shoes i have been wearing since this started. I got a 4E, very important to have room in a shoe.

Yes, wide toe box is essential. Too narrow of a shoe is thought to contribute to neuroma formation also.

My doctor said to get WIDE only. I discovered for myself, that a mens' shoe is wider than a women's wide! So last time I bought a walking athletic shoe, I bought a New Balance Men's 8.5. ( I usually wear a women's 10)

They have a bit of life in them still, but next spring I will probably need a new pair.

My crocs are good in the width department, but on the left foot the upper top edge hits my scar...and that is becoming a problem.
I use them for gardening now, and going in the water on vacation. But I can't wear them for walking any distances, or shopping!

For a while there I thought my tumor had grown back under the skin, but that swelling has finally gone down. The only thing new I did while this happened was the ribose. (and I am still taking it).

For me I only wear walking shoes. The past few years I have been wearing the same kind of Nike but now they are discontinued so will have to find a new one. I try to break my shoes in slowly cause no matter what they hurt so much at first. I have not worn a cute pair of shoes since this condition.
I heard NB are a good shoe for support which I think is key.
