Default Paid the Price

Hi,

Wasn't hungry for dinner last night so heated up some Swanson's chicken broth w/less sodium (never had it before) and tossed in some fresh frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, green beans). Forgot to read the ingredients and seems the broth had some built-in seasonings and onions.

However, also had a chocolate craving so went to the building's vending machine and got a Three Musketeers - something I haven't eaten in years.

By bedtime, I was burning for the first time in many weeks.

Had to be either the Swanson's or the candy as the rest of the day had only eaten tried and true usual foods at home.

What foods do/might cause any of you to have a burning attack and what does that mean - allergy to the food or something else?

MSG will cause burning for me anytime!

Potatoes too.

And any sugar rush.

Some spices like curry in excess.

This is what sets me off.

Also the WEATHER!!!

MSG is designed to excite the nerves, is it not?

I really don't think they should put it in foods without us knowing.

There is a Progresso soup now that is MSG free. I use these for making a quick meal. You can add veggies to them, or your own meat. They never upset me... even if they have a bit of potato in them.

You can get them at WalMart or Target for about $1.50 each.

I use them often, and esp on vacation where food keeping is challenging on the island.

Some of the new Campbell's Select are also good, and some MSG free, but they use cabbage juice in them, and I can't tolerate cabbage...

Read your labels... always.

When you have had PN attacks before, sugar rushes, from candy or ice cream (or other sinful treats) can set you off too.
This is a complex reflex of insulin spiking...which affects fatty acid balance..favoring the inflammatory cytokines PGE2s, over the stabilizing ones PGE1s. This chemistry is explained in Dr. Barry Sears' books. (Enter the Zone and others)

Really appreciate the tips about reading labels and what to watch out for - guess it'll also be a case of trial and error at times.

For somebody who never had to watch out about anything I ate, this will be an education.
