Default Frequent urination

Aw Crap. I was doing awesome with the supplements recommended here for Chemo PN. I think I started around August. B-12, Benefiotine, R-liopic, , COQ10,Magnesium once a day.

Last month I started to really have to urinate a lot. Sometimes I felt I couldn't leave the bathroom. I went to the Doctor and got tested for diabeties and quick prostrate check. All good so the doctor wrote me script but said to stop taking the supplements first. And of course the urination problems went away. This was about mid October. On Holloween I performed in a haunted house for hours in shoes and felt awesome. no neuro pain. I was thinking I'm ready to go back to work soon.

Last couple of weeks it's as bad as it was prior to the supplements. So I guess I'm looking for any thoughts on the subject because the last few days have sucked

Thanks

Mike

Question

Can you clarify some? Are we talking about urgency?

Or high volume of dilute urine?

The urge to urinate may indicate a bladder infection. If you are an older male the urge may be prostatitis, or bladder infection.

The volume of urine output, indicates high volume of water being consumed, or diuretics like caffeine in tea/coffee etc. High volume coming out without high volume going in, would be dehydrating.

I'd add the supplements back one by one...to see where the culprit is. Start with the B12... It's dose is so tiny it should not have much effect on the kidney. My guess would be the magnesium (depending on the dose)

I have seen people remark about taking high dose Bcomplex creating more urination. Often this happens within 2 hrs of taking 50mg or more.

What prescription did he give you? What type of cancer did you have?

Can you post here the doses you were taking of the supplements?
Also does your CoQ-10 have bioperine in it? This is a pepper extract, and some people cannot tolerate the pepper part.

Hey Mrs D. Nice to talk to you again. I've been lurking, but not posting much

The problem I guess would be urgency. Sometimes drips, sometimes volume. At times it felt like I should just stay on the toilet.

I had colon cancer, stage 2. Tumor removed May of 09. Chemo ended mid Dec 09. I found out at that time thru CT scan that I have 1 kidney. Born that way and never knew. No known kidney problems. Blood work has been good

I think I may have been out of magnesium at the time this happened. I'm at my parents till next week so I,m not sure of the CoQ10

I was taking 5000 meythl B12, 500 benefotiamine(SP), 500 Acetyl-L carnitine, 1 r-liopic and magnesium....I think I was out of the mag and the r-liopic at the time. I'll know when I get back home and I'll dig up my OP here to recheck

I'll restart B12 when I get back.

Well, I'd get to a urologist when you return home.
Cancer can spread, and who knows what is going with that?

I think you can reduce the B12 to 1mg a day for a while, and see what happens. If you have the 5mg left, just do it twice a week.

Men do get urinary tract infections, so I'd get the urologist to test for that.

500mg of benfotiamine is alot. Some is stored in the body tho and not excreted quickly. I never recommend that high a dose.
If you start back on it, I'd stay at 150mg.

Neuropathy can affect the bladder.

But I think going to a urologist is your next decision.

Looked it up and I made a mistake on the benfotiamine. I was taking 2x150. So it was 300mg a day.

Not having a problem with urination since stopping the supplements. But I am now taking the Gabapentin twice a day when I rarely did that before supplements 2x300mg

I'll follow the cut backs and restart when I get back home middle of next week

Thank you

Alcohol and some spices like ginger, can irritate the bladder, causing urgency... so do look to your foods to see if a trigger is there.

Also you can have stones in the bladder, and that would need a urologist's evaluation.

Some days I swear I urinate gallons, other days I almost dont feel the need to urinate, I have no idea what to make of it,, I am a male,, and scheduled to see a urologist,, mrsD,, you mention prostate problems,, for years my PSA has ranged from 2 up to 3.9,, and this summer tested at 3.2,, they dont seemed concerened,, I guess my question is,, if one had prostate cancer,, would it show up on a CBC,, increased something,, SED rate,, White blood count,, anything?,, Had parentoplastic panel this summer,, apparently it was normal,,

I don't know much about prostate diagnosis. I'd ask your doctor for details.

But some foods can cause fluid retention. Too much sugar is one.

When you eat protein, that requires fluid to get rid of the nitrogen that is cleaved off to make glucose.

Low B6 status often causes fluid retention too.

A good habit to get into is having a full glass of water when you wake up. This flushes out the metabolism that occurred during the night.

Drinking alot of caffeine, will give different fluid excretion.
During the caffeine intake times you will go more. After the caffeine wears off, you will go less. You can test this out by drinking water first thing in the morning, at lunch and before dinner. This should stop the drier times.

Special blood test for prostate. 'PSA-4' or something similar (I can't remember.)
This test would indicate whether a cell sample is necessary. But it is not 100% indicator. Digital exam necessary also.
My cousin just had to have his prostate removed a month ago because of a positive test for CA and is recuperating from the surgery. Fortunately he was OK enough to come for Thanksgiving dinner with the family last Thurs.

I think I found the culprit. R-Liopic.

I'm back on B12, benefiotimine, acetyl L carnitine. My PN off the supplements was bad. Waking me up 5 x's a night. 1st night back on slept all the way thru. And taking a lot less Gabapentin. still not good, but seeing improvement already. Less than a week

Thank you so much Mrs D and the rest of the forum
