Default Candidiasis

They found Calndidiasis in my throat so I'm on anti-fungal meds now. This is not common for a 47 year old man. I'm not diabetic and haven't been on antibiotics in years and never long term. My GI isn't sure how I have it except possibly my immune system is having problems. He told me to tell my neuro about it when I see her next week. I know PN can effect the autonomic nerve system but does anyone know if PN can effect the immune system?

I'm also have balance and dizziness problems. I stop all meds for awhile so I know it is not caused by the meds. Is this common as this disease progresses?

I also just got a new prescription for my glasses about 6 months ago but things seem to be going blurry periodically. Can is also be related to PN?

The Candida may work its way UP from below....reflux while you are sleeping, it the most common cause.

Candida is insidious. It can cause reactions all over the body.
When really active, it produces aldehydes which cause flushing, burning and pain. (like an Antabuse reaction).

I'd take some Benfotiamine (300mg daily) for a while and see if some of your symptoms abate. This will support the metabolism of the aldehydes and help clear your metabolism up a bit.

The immune system is dependent on zinc intake. If you take drugs that deplete this, like ACE inhibitors for blood pressure, steroids, etc... you may be low in this. Zinc is also needed for
metabolizing alcohol.

Candida may grow like crazy after using oral antibiotics. This is how it gets started. Using a good probiotic and eating yogurt will help.

It is thought that delayed release probiotics are the best, and those with many organisms listed in high amounts are to be chosen. Using these may foster good bacteria in your GI tract which will squeeze the Candida out and prevent it from taking over again.

Most of the sites I've read, claim that the antifungal drugs do not eradicate Candida permanently.

The most successful thing you can do is avoid sugars and simple starches. This starves the Candida and it may go dormant.

I have been on a candida diet since March. Sugars are your wosrt enemies like Mrs. D says. Along with sugars, you need to give up sweeteners, I use Stevia which is ok, plus processed foods. Many of us have to give up dairy products too.

Do a research on candida diets.

Sometimes it takes months to clear this up, even using both over the counter medications plus bouts of the presciption type. You must at the same time consume no sugar - no juices - no refined carbs - low glycemic-index foods and fruits - eat like a diabetic SHOULD eat.

And, in addition to that, use high quality probiotics.

And get tested for food sensitivities, or just get off gluten and dairy for 6 months.

I am not a doctor. This is just from experience.

I read that you should stay on a candida diet for as many months as the years you feel you may have been delaing with candida issues. For some of us, this is an unknown time frame. My daughter was born with thrush, so I am thinking I must have been dealing with candida when pregnant with her, if not longer. So, in that respect, I feel I will need to stick very close to the candida diet for 28 months since she is 28 yrs old. I am now 9 months into the diet and doing so much better!

I got a candida infection in my throat and mouth from taking Prilosec. It is a side effect (read the drug info insert) yet many Drs don't know about this. I was having burning mouth syndrome from it and finally got a Dr. to Rx me Diflucan and it cleared it right up.
