My neuro's office called to let me know that one of the tests was elevated - CA19-9. Paraneoplasic test is still pending.

He also did a CEA - ok
and a CA125 - ok

CA19-9 was 56 should be 37 or below.

Can detect GI cancers (pancreatic, colon, liver) and benign conditions such as Gallstones, not aware that I have, but hoping I do because it is the best alternative.

Neuro now wants me to go to a GI doc. to be on the safe side.

I'll probably need a tube stuck down one end and up the other.

Needless to say I am a wreck!

I hit the internet, what's odd is CEA & CA125 also check for same cancers as CA19-9 (along with others) why would only one be elevated.

I am so praying for a false positive or gallstones.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Tests are not totally 100% reliable...they have to be taken in context.

Gall bladder duct disease has many symptoms. But early pancreatic cancer does not.

When you get to these ultra specialized areas, you have to rely on the doctor's experience and opinions.

Don't forget you could have more than one thing going on.
That happens too.

I am almost through my work-up to rule out paraneoplastic syndrome. "Standard" procedure in women is to screen for breast, ovarian, and colon cancer with tumor marker levels and mammography, ultrasound of the pelvis, and colonoscopy. Then a CT of chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Paraneoplastic neuronal antibodies are usually selected for testing depending on symptoms.

Hang in there. What else can we do?

I did not have these tests done. Is it part of the paraneoplastic panel? If so, I did not have it done.

Please keep us all informed. I'm hoping that its nothing serious.

part of the paraneoplastic panel. These are separate blood tests for tumor markers in the blood.

I am getting more nervous by the minute.

I am on a waiting listing for a GI dr.
