When I saw Dr. Hoke in April, he mentioned that Dr. Griffin was gravely ill. He spoke of his dedication to his patients and to his research. Even though Dr. Griffin was undergoing chemo, he continued to see patients whom he felt needed him. PNers have lost a rare and special reseacher/investigator. I will be sending a check to the memorial fund.

In Memoriam: John W Griffin MD

Dear Colleagues:

It is with a profound sense of loss—both on behalf of Johns Hopkins Medicine and personally—that I announce the death of John Griffin, an internationally acclaimed and admired expert on diseases of the peripheral nervous system. Known affectionately to all as Jack, he served as the founding director of the Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute from 2007 until just earlier this month, and was a former director of the Department of Neurology. He died on Saturday, April 16, after a long battle with bladder cancer at the age of 69.

RIP

I was under the impression that he was in his mid 70's, but it could have been the illness. He looked older than I, and I'm going on 67.
An extremely personable and likeable man.
I'm going to miss him.
The current director, Dr Hoke, sent me a letter with the announcement and a list of other docs to choose from, including himself.

RIP Dr. Griffin. Sorry to hear about your Doctor passing away. He sounds like he was one of the best, im sure he knew that you appreciated him.
I had a doctor like that also, pulmonary doctor, who cared and took the extra step. IF it wasnt for him and the interest he took in my pulmonary problems early after 9/11, im pretty sure i would be one of the many who are no longer here. He was killed by a hit and run driver.
