Here is some more information on Epstein Barr Virus:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/ebv.htm You may need to go to an infectious disease specialist if your doctor cannot manage this result.

--as Mrs. D's site notes, once one has been infectd with Epstein Barr Virus (also known as Human Herpes Virus 4), certain of the antibody levels persist for life, as after the acute phase the virus sets up a low level presence in the nasopharynx B-cells and can be reactivated under conditions of immune compromise. (And there have cases of neuropathy associated with infection and/or reactivation of the virus.)
You only list the results of the IgM and IgG viral capsule antigen (VCA) here, those by themselves will tell you very little (it is common for the IgG VCA to be elevated for life once infected, and over 90% of us are infected by age 30--this is why EBV is also called "everbody's virus"). A FULL EBV panel also includes the early antigen and EBNA titers to try to determine when infection has occurred and if it has reactivated. |
