I had my doc test me for ebv. igg and igm. always woundered if lingering virus is my cause of these symptoms. since i have always had upper respitory illness.

here is the results. what do you guys think.

NEGATIVE <18.0 U/ML
EQUIVOCAL 18.0-21.9 U/ML
POSITIVE >/=22.0 U/ML

EBV VCA IgM <10.0 U/ML SEE BELOW

EBV VCA IgM INTERPRETATION:
NEGATIVE <36.0 U/ML
EQUIVOCAL 36.0-43.9 U/ML
POSITIVE >/=44.0 U/ML

The IGG is very high. she just emailed me results and said that we will talk in two weeks after i finish steroids.

--as Mrs. D's site notes, once one has been infectd with Epstein Barr Virus (also known as Human Herpes Virus 4), certain of the antibody levels persist for life, as after the acute phase the virus sets up a low level presence in the nasopharynx B-cells and can be reactivated under conditions of immune compromise. (And there have cases of neuropathy associated with infection and/or reactivation of the virus.)

You only list the results of the IgM and IgG viral capsule antigen (VCA) here, those by themselves will tell you very little (it is common for the IgG VCA to be elevated for life once infected, and over 90% of us are infected by age 30--this is why EBV is also called "everbody's virus"). A FULL EBV panel also includes the early antigen and EBNA titers to try to determine when infection has occurred and if it has reactivated.
