Sorry for being so dense about this, but how would a doc go about doing electrophysiological tests on the phrenic nerve? I'm assuming it isn't part of a routine test unless they suspect something is up with the nerves innervating the diaphragm. Is this correct?
Can anyone tell me how this would be done? Where on the body would they do electrophysiological testing for the phrenic nerve? Thanks so much in advance. |

When I had tos surgery, they did electron. Phrenic Nerve test, to make sure this nerve was identified by its function, so they could preserve it during surgery. I read the surgery report after my surgery so that's how I know this. I'm sure this was done inside the chest or neck area. I really don't know if this can be done outside the skin, I wouldn't think so.
Hope this helps! |

This study examined a way to determine if that nerve was working properly:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22957532 This paper examines the nerve with EMG techniques: http://www.eymj.org/Synapse/Data/PDF.../ymj-26-24.pdf This also may explain other ways: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Respira...is/show/284429
