Default Trying to re-condense my daily regimen for nerve regrowth. Looking for veteran help!

Hey guys. sensitive info here but we are all adults....

So, I am trying to aid the regeneration of the peripheral nerves in my groin (penis) from an injury at around 1 1/2 years ago. I am looking for suggestions on the best most hardcore supplement regimen I should be using to tackle regeneration from all angles. Please help me with any suggestions.

Right now I am taking:

R-lipoic acid : 300 mg
ALA/ALC- 500/150 mg
b6: 75 mg
b12: 5 mg
Magnesium: 400 mg
flax oil: 2 tlbs


What else what else?

I don't think you need that high a level of B6. I'd get some activated form, P5P instead. NOW makes an affordable one that is lower dose. 35mg I think.

Also some activated folic acid...metafolin. This is in the RX version Metanx... which is made for neuropathy. But it is only for those really who are not converting folate in the body well.
Unless you have had a homocysteine test to show high levels, you may not need this. Most people get folate and use it okay from food. Metafolin is by Solgar at 800mcg a day.

Consider some fish oil too. DHA in fish oil is used to repair nerve membranes. Males do not convert flax oil as efficiently as females, so adding fish oil is helpful. You can then reduce your flax oil by half or so.

Your others seem okay. If after 6mos, you have NO results, I think you can cut back if you choose. You should have some results if you are going to get any.

I agree with you on the vit b6. Thing is a top neuro at cornell Uni. reccomended b6 @ 100mg!? I took my first dose of 75 mg today and I got tingling sensations in my hands. Never again taking that much. The fact that a top neuro reccommended so much b6 is nuts.

What do you think about benfotiamine as an addition?

If you drink alcohol frequently, or suspect you have Candida yeast in the GI tract...from overuse of antibiotics, etc, Benfotiamine may help.

This helps metabolically where thiamine is involved in metabolism.

I really think your injury may have caused scar tissue, adhesions there, which may be compressing your nerves, or pulling on them, etc. If that is the case, supplements may not help much over the long haul.

But if you have metabolic problems, supplements may help. Most of them are going to help loads of other issues in your body besides...cardiovascular and aging to name a few.

What about vitamin c? I don't know if it was just for the rsd I suffer or for Pn too but I actually had a pain doctor suggest taking vitamin c cause it aids in healing. I take calcium with d for my osteoporsis. I know some people have to be careful with calcium and not sure it does much for the nerves but strong bones are important too. Hope you get relief.

Hey Mrs. D is it ok if I take the 300 mg of R-LA all at once, or should I space it out throughout the day? Same question regarding other supps Im taking as well.

Some things are not absorbed well.

Acetyl carnitine and CoQ-10 are examples. These are best spaced out.

I have never seen the lipoic acid listed as poorly absorbed.

This paper compares timed release with immediate release, and near the end gives results of successful high dose (once a day) treatment with lipoic acid.

So I would say you can take yours all at once, if it does not upset you. The paper does illustrate that timed release versions are inferior to immediate release types.

Hey Mrs D, do you think my dose of ALC is high enough? In the study I read they were taking 500 - 1000 3 times a day..

Also, I just purchased Na-Rala as it is supposed to be more absorpable, do you have any thoughts on this?

edit* Im actually taking 1300 mg alc daily, usually divided one dose as 500 mg then next dose about 2 hours later at 800 mg. But sometimes all together. It is difficult for me to space things out sometimes...

What kind of injury did you have? I am in the same boat. I had a herniated disk. While things got better, i had a second operation and I think it made matters worse.

Mine was a traumatic sexual injury, rather than an operation related injury..
