Default Hypothyroidism

I've read here and on some reliable web sites how hypothoidism effects the nervous system resulting in sensory-motor PN. My question is how long after the toxicity has been resolved will improvement start? I had over 2 years of extreme hyperthyroidism, then thyroidectomy with problems getting up to a normal range, low for months. Nov 2010 started 3 months of a TSH of 20 and I was very sick. This is when I started to show my motor neuropathy symptoms. My blood levels normalized mid Jan. this year, first time since Jan. 2008. I mean, do you get better as soon as the levels normalize, or is the damage going to take a while to resolve?

I see a neuromuscular doc who says I am a bit stronger, but I do not feel I am making any improvement. I am starting to think her herpes zoster involvement is "hinky." I am just disgusted today, not self pity, just frustrated and missing my old life.

It took me a year to get my feet back from hypothyroidism.

Not 100% but around 90%. My hands were also severely affected and still flare up with over-use now and then, years later.

I really don't think there is an optimistic prognosis, since the tissue deposited during the hypo period, may not be reabsorbed or changed 100%. This tissue compresses nerves at the wrist and ankles.

Default thanks MrsD...

I was just feeling sorry for myself when I posted that day. I am looking for a quick fix and I know there is none, time will tell. I have several things going on at once, a few may never improve.

I must thank you for your supplement advice, I am much less fatigued since I started them 2 months ago. It was that horrible general train wreck tired feeling we get with the nervous system. Much better, no longer waking up in the night feeling more tired than I went to bed! The supplements were the only thing different with a bit of PT.

Wink

I am pleased for you that you are seeing some improvement.

I think you will find more so as time passes. It takes a while for some enzyme systems to "wake up" when they have been idle.

Keep me and the rest of us posted too.

(I am just catching up on my PMs and older posts since my return.)
