M feet are often cold also but if you touch them they are as warm as can be. I think it is my nerves just playing tricks. I love the juvenile delinquent analogy. My nerves are juvenile deliquents , too!
The only thing I have found is to sleep with socks on. I usually choose a pair of my husbands because they are larger and don't feel tight. It works great to help me sleep Dorothy |

Wonderful and Very Funny writing C. I always enjoy reading you. You have such a unique way of putting things and always a Zinger thrown in. http://www.sheknows.com/graphics/emoticons/panic.gif Quote:

CAUTION!!!!Ok I say this strongly and it may not happen to you but my mom bought me toe warmers there the same as your talking for the hands but you put them on the bottom of you sock. Anyhow my feet go numb like even in a cold doc office I feel like blocks of ice. The other day they were and the power went out so I put them on. Well they get super hot and my feet were numb so I couldn't feel it till it was too late. I'm very sensitive and my feet felt burnt. So just be careful of that.

Daniella:
Did you put them inside your socks, or on the outside?? I would never put anything next to my skin. Because you don't know how hot these things may get. But if you wear thick socks and just place these over the socks and wrap them around the socks (people find the most amazing ways to put these things on. Take this way for example. Say you have cold feet. YOu put on a nice thick pair of socks. You place the tow warmers over them. Then you get a really bigger pair of stocks and place these over the whole thing. Now I realize you can't go outside like this, but for inside the house, if the thing does it's stuff, your skin is protected and you get nice and toasty. Now I have no idea if this will work. Last year, in January (and before I took the Methyl B-12), my feet got so cold, I would use those microwaveable aromatic beaded things that, once they are nice and warm, you can wrap it around your shoulder, or place it on the floor and put your feet on it. Saved my life last winter. Now I have no idea if I will have cold feet this winter because I have been doing the Methyl B-12 things. UPDATE. UPDATE UPDATE I just became a GREAT AUNT. Alan's niece just gave birth 30 minutes ago (the phone just rang). A nice Hanukkah baby. Eric Parker. (nice name, hah??). New Life.... you gotta love it!!!! Does this make me old??? lol |
Congratulations Mel....cute name...I like it... it isn't Lars Larsson, or Olaf Olofsson! I get to say that as all my ancestors are named that on one side....
On those 'hot thingies' you put in gloves....they do work, but as u said, not to put anything hot or cold, chemical or electrical on bare skin. I have those things here at home...it is tough to put them in shoes as they throw off your gait. I am off to make gingerbread men...and women. We are snowed in to the max....we were on the ice/snow border and we got snow, thank God---it is really coming down, schools are closed and making cookies on a day like today is tradition. Labradors, (dogs) love this kind of weather.....they cry to go out and flail around in the flakes, chase like crazy. I would say we have 6 inches so far, today....and it is still coming. My dogs (3 of them) have an acre fenced in by invisible fencing so they run around like crazy, when they look like Yetis they beg to come in! They get tired, come in all wet, eat a chew, then go to the patio door and whine to go out again. I mop up and it starts all over. I keep getting my socks wet....so it is a cold feet day. That is OK, I have lots of socks that must have been made by Mrs. Olof Olofsson (AKA Anna Andersdotter), or some other aptly named little gnome...so I keep switching socks. I am now warming them up ahead of time on my heating pad!!! My, my, I am good!!! I think I am getting this cold feet thing down. Ya hey dair....Happy Holidays! Oh and Wiix....consider me the Erma Bombeck of PN....I am glad you enjoy my humor....I am sure there are those who think I need haldol. I do cry as much as I laugh...only I tend to bawl in private...(oh my, even that had a double entendre). Sorry, I can't help it. I need a comedy show....(boy would I need the make-up---I could keep quite a few of them make-up artists employed.) |
Well, yes, if your feet are numb then you certainly don't put ANY heat souce on them. That's why I say , warm water soak then dry them and massage them with Cocoa Butter to get the circulation improved, an wiggle your toes while you do it. I think some of this FRIGIDITY may just be from your feet not Moving and being stimulated. TRY the Natural way Before you try all these Other extremes. It May help a lot.
It sort of reminds me of something else I figured out. You know how sometimes above your eyes are all puffy and flop down OVER your upper eyelids?? I thought about WHY this happens and if you think about it, does this area MOVE?? No, it doesn't so a gentle, upward and outward massage with a moisturizer a few minutes a day will actually remove some of this puffiness. I have been doing this now for about a year and it has actually improved the situation about 50%. Plus the fact I lost about 30 pounds in the past 6 or 8 months has also improved the situation. |

My gingerbread men are gingerbread bears....gender neutral. (The cookie cutter looked like a man at first...I did not have my glasses on.)
The gingerbread roof collapsed despite being built to meet the LA building codes...it is OK, we are cementing back together with some powdered sugar. It is important to have a good diet and the ideal weight (I preach this all the time)...so THAT is why I am making gingerbread blobs when I want to lose 10 pounds....some things defy logic.:D As you see, I do not practice what I preach....I only ate 3 bears. |
My feet often feel cold although they are warm to the touch. I sleep with socks on, and that helps. My toes usually feel better when I am walking.

You live in Boulder....what is not perfect??? :D I visit there, and it is gorgeous, no matter what time of year....hate your traffic tho. 300 days of sunshine...I am soo jealous. Of course, every one is so nice to me when I visit, as I live near one of Boulder's 'sister cities'....the 'Boulder of the Midwest'. See, you are cool  if you live in one of these cities. (I am from the sticks near the city, but I pass, as I used to live in the city.) More folks from here by me, move to there by you. For some reason, I can not wear socks to bed...but my naughty dogs jump up when I am asleep and lay on my feet....so my feet are seldom cold at night. It is always a 'three dog night' at my house. Did you guys now that how many dogs you sleep with is the old arctic way of judging the cold.....one dog..not too bad, two dogs, must be below freezing, three dogs, zero to 20 degrees, and you need the whole pack if it is below zero---you take whatever you can get....even socks in the bed. |
Wiix----your animation is hysterical.

Cycleops,
I have been living in Boulder since 1973. There has been many changes since I have been here, most of them not good. You mentioned the traffic which gets congested during rush hour and lunch time. This was supposed to be a controlled growth city, but there has bee quite a bit pf growth. Many people cannot affod to live here so they have to commute to Boulder to work. It is still a nice place to live. I am not sure what the Boulder of the midwest would be. My guess would be Madison |
You are a Boulderite! And yes your guess is correct! Urban growth is a pain, we have it too...along with traffic congestions...at least here, I know where I am going.
For general consumption: On the cold feet....the problem with those with neuropathy, is the nerves themselves. With nerve malfunction, even with warm or cold external sources, the nerves themselves may decide to transmit erroneous signals. The cold sensation is just the opposite of the burning sensation....we don't plunge our feet in ice because they burn..(well maybe some folks do). I think it is good to keep your feet warm, but it may not stop the cold sensation....not much stops the numbing sensation. Well, I have a doggie trainer coming...yes, I bit for one. My one dog has separation anxiety and he needs to get used to going with a stranger, because he has to go to a kennel for a weekend soon. I need to go clean up the house. I made quite a mess with my gingerbread adventure, as did my dogs with their snow play....messy counters and dirty floors to clean. I made it thru the day without any burns or electrocution. Now to fight the urge to eat all that gingerbread. (My dog ate the collapsed roof of the house already.) |
Yes, c, experienced that phenomenon myslf but that was a long time ago. during a particularly stressful time in my life when I consumed a Wee bit too much alcohol on a regular basis. I'm not proud of it but I used it a a coping mechanism when I was in a situation that I just couldn't cope with. I have to say now that I see that wasn't the solution, it ruined my health. It's been over 15 years since I have done that kind of thing but looking back now I see how much damage I did to myelf and Coping??? Naa, just made things worse and prolonged the situation.
Anyway, Ihad that periferal neuopathy. The burning sensation in my feet. getting into a hot tub and my feet felt Cold. Effects of alcohol. I have a smilie that typifies it. Not a good one so hold on. ;) Let me add this. ALL of theose foot problems have gone away but it oo years. |

Since this is a thread about cold feet, various aches and pains, etc. (and I really don't want to go off topic, but believe me, THIS WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH YOUR AS* OFF!!!
Here. Take a look and enjoy!!!.. http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/opin...y_boomers.html |
Oh God!!! Do we really look and sound like that??? I watch the women at the Y and I think to myself, Man, she looks so old. Then come to find out she is Younger than I am. I think it's the basics going awry. Older women tend to chop off all their hair and colour it these wierd colours. I am the same colour as I have always been and my hair is still long, down my back. Their bodies enlarge and with no hair and a big body, well, there ya go.
Smaller body, big hair, not teased and poofed up, I mean just an Ample amount, to me looks more youthful than chopping it off, wearing too much make up and being fat. It's simple. Get a handle on those 3 things, IMO, and you look better and younger than you are. Oh and I found the comments Under that animation Very Good, especially ONE................ Give me fresh air anytime. I hate gyms, for they are a cesspool for staph and STD's and other infectious diseases. Now I enjoy life more than before, but I do miss the money and wish I could work, but being forced into retirement due to unforseenable health complications, staying healthy is my number one goal. Hope you all stay healthy in the new year. Life is more than money, good looks being shown offs; it is best to be healthy than being good looking. Give me an at home treadmill any day. They can keep their gyms! I would rather be fat and healthy than be skinny and sick!! |
Hi. Melody that was cute. I needed a cute chuckle.
As for the toe warmers they were on the outside of the sock. They get real hot and when your sensitive and numb it hurts. For me once I go cold it takes a lot to warm up my feet. I even tried these battery socks for men that work outside. Horrible all I can say. I have a hard enough time with socks and that battery on my ankle was horrible plus the wires I could feel on the bottom of the socks. |
Mel
I laughed so hard, I think I ruptured my surgical glue. Put this puppy on a separate thread....it needs to be seen! |
Okay, I'll start a different thread. I hope that's okay!!!
Melody |
Ok, like all of you I've
tried all sorts of normal and well, peculiar things to keep my tootsies 'happy'. For a while, I actually thought of getting a 'pizza stone' heating it, wrapping it and plunking it under my feet to keep 'em toasty. Kind of like old time Colonial Bed Warming Pans. Nixed it, cause handling HOT things anywhich way isn't healthy in the long run for me.
What I do, when I find my toes are turning blue, no matter what the brain says? Has been to blow my hair dryer on lo and just warm over the skin until it thaws....Usually takes a coupla minutes and you can't fall asleep holding a hair dryer? Then gentle rubs to increase circulation all over with some gentle push-rubs upwards around my ankles where there is mild edema...I push-rub from the heel up to the knee, front and back but UP...not any downwards rubbing. Doing this, I find my feet will stay happy for 3-6 hours. Worth a shot anyone? Hope this helps - j |
IF I can, getting sunlight on my cold feet feels SO good. Slathering them in Baby Oil at the same time speeds up the warming. It's close to Zero degrees here right now and I have a little heater blowing close to my feet. I just got out of the shower so they are already warmed up BUT I am going back to bed shortly since I don't think I got more that 2 hours sleep Tops last night and if I don't get some more sleep this day will be Torture. Night everyone, for a while at least. ;):grouphug:

I assume you don't take a sleeping aid??? I do and if I didn't, I would be up till all hours. Not from my feet, but I just have never been a sleeper. What a gift it is to take a little "something" (in my case I take Alprazolam, as does my husband Alan, but he takes it because it quiets his PN). We're like a team. We go into the kitchen at around 11 p.m. We look at each other and we take our pills. In 20 minutes or so, we are in dreamland. I never knew what sleeping through the night was until I tried a sleep aide. This was about 7 or so years ago. I told my doctor "I don't sleep, I never did". He said "would you like to try an Ambien".? I said "why not?" Well, it was like getting a christmas present. I remember sitting in my doctor's office and saying to him "do you know what it is like to NOT SLEEP, and then one night you take an Ambien, and you put your head down and the next thing you know it's morning and you had 8 or 9 hours.??" When you've never experienced that, believe me, it's a gift. Now Alan was a completely different person. Before his PN went nutso on him, this man could put his head down on ANY surface, tell me: "I'm going to take a nap" and VOILA!!!! he'd be asleep in 30 seconds. I have no idea how some people can do that!! I find this amazing.j I couldn't do this on a bet. I'm a thinker, a worrier, and because I am the way I am, well, I take my sleep when I can get it. And alprazolam is so cheap. It's not a sleeping aide, it's kind of a tranquilizer and it calms me down so I just drift off. I hope I don't need this for the rest of my life, but hey, I'll take what I can get. Mel |
No, ML. I 'm o.k. as far as sleeping. I really can't take any sleep ades, it brings on visual problems for me. As long as I keep to my schedule and stay awake as long as I possibly can, I usually can get to sleep without too much trouble.
But if you let your pets sleep in your bed, like I did last night and both of them restless and waking you up every half hour because they want their Mama to snuggle with them, well, this is the price you pay. TONIGHT!!!! Mama sleeps ALONE!!!! Naa, I love the little monkeys. :D But they are starting their "Heat" and they are both NOT themselves. :o |
Wow, didn't know you couldn't take a sleep aide. You're probably better off. I know that probably there will come a day when I have to "stop", but until then, at least I get my sleep.
Got a cute story about dogs. My friend lives around the corner. She's 75 and she has this Shitzu (spelling??) His name is Babe. He's the cutest little thing and when I go there, he gets all excited, starts shaking and moving back and forth, his little tail is wagging, just the cutest, friendliest dog I have ever seen. UNTIL YESTERDAY!!! I'm there visiting my friend and the doorbell rings. She's sick so I got up to answer the door. I see a delivery man with a big package. I open the door and I'm about to say "May I help you??" when little Babe runs past me and practically attacks the delivery man. I have never seen such a thing in all my life. It turns out that he doesn't like the Fed Ex Drivers or the brown trucks. He goes crazy. So the dog whizzes past me and jumps on the man and nips his hand. I go "Babe, what the heck is wrong with you, stop that'. He didn't stop, He started barking at the man like he was the Creature from the Black Lagoon. My friend comes running in from the kitchen all apologetic and says to the man. "Sorry, he hates delivery people". I just stared. The poor guy said: "I've been barked at by Pit Bulls, but never a little dog like this. The guy slowly backed off the porch but Babe kept at him. I never saw such an angry doggie in my whole life. The guy thought it was funny. THIS IS FUNNY?? Oh, the other dog down the block is Whitey. He's 12 years old and arthritic, he can barely walk. Well, the postman came by the other day and told the owner of the dog, "if you don't get rid of this dog, I'll kill him" When I heard this story (this morning, as Alan and I walked to Dunkin Donuts), I said "wait a minute, the postman is afraid of Whitey???? The dog can't even walk, he's got arthritis". And the owner said 'I swear to god, the guy wanted to kill my dog, because Whitey kept barking at him?" So what is up with these dogs and delivery people and post men? I'm telling you, you should have seen the look on my face when Babe raced past me and attacked the Fed Ex Guy. If I were a Fed Ex guy, I would quit my job after that.....lol Mel |
Well ML dogs ARE very protective and territorial.
I used to have a male and female Shitzu. Yes, they ARE the Sweetest things. |
i hate anything touching my feet...
i so hate anything touching my feet... at night i keep my feet outside of the blankets... cuz it bothers me...PN... but my feet feel like they are burning... yet they too are cold to the touch... what can do???
