Welcome to NeuroTalk:
That is something you have to discuss with your insurance company. I believe they are all very different. From the postings here in the past, only a diagnosis of diabetes, will get you special shoes on insurance for "most" of them. There may be an appeal process for others, to use, and that would be spelled out by your plan. In those cases, the doctor sends in diagnosis and reasons to the insurance for evaluation.

[Drum roll please.......................] It depends! (Big surprise!
![]() It depends on your policy/coverage. Mine wouldn't cover shoes for PN UNLESS I had "diabetes", in which case they were covered completely. Check with your insurance carrier or review your policy before your appointment, then explain the situation to your doctor. Even if they're not covered by insurance, they can be paid for out of a Health Savings Account or Healthcare Reimbursement Account if you have either of those. Doc

its a medicare rule, shoes are only paid for if you have diabetic neuropathy. And of course the insurance companies go gleefully along with that to avoid paying.
