Default Peripheral neuropathy heat

I am trying to treat a peripheral neuropathy from a thiamine deficiency that happened from food intolerance malabsorption. As many with PN know, the nerves heat up at night. My abdomen and GI tract and back were inflamed and I wondered what people did to keep the heat down. I've tried lying on an ice pack but there must be something to take for tissue inflammation that won't aggravate the GI tract or nerves.

Default Diet for inflammation

I like the advice at http://www.angelhealingcenter.com/An...atoryDiet.html , especially concerning fish oil. A Life Extension Foundation article at http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2002/...2_awsi_03.html agrees with the advise on the first link, but isn't nearly as comprehensive.

If you haven't tried fish oil caps, it takes a while for your body to adapt. Try taking the capsule at the beginning of a meal, to keep the concentrated fish oil away from your esophagus. Believe me, you do not want to experience hours of fishy burps. It's funny to say, but a real bummer to experience. Eventually, your body adapts to the fish oil. I can now take a capsule on an empty stomach with no problem.

I don't have any problems myself taking fish oil supplements but i have heard that if anyone has trouble with those " fishy burps" that David speaks of, then just freeze the tablet before taken it then eat your meal, apparently it stops those fishy burbs all together.

I too have heard about freezing them to prevent the fishy burps.

Although when I wen to Whole Foods the other day to buy some Fishoil capsules, they had some new ones that are targeted releases don't digest until they get to the small intestine so no burbs. Called Fisol. I'll let you know if they work.

Lightbulb there

are many more choices for enteric coated fish oil now.

Fisol is an older one--and expensive.

But SAM's club and Costco both have a concentrated enteric coated
fish oil, for very reasonable cost now. They don't dissolve until past the stomach...so no burps...

I have found that people reflux fish oil in the beginning when stomach issues
are poor due to EFA deficiency. As the body heals when the proper Omega-3
are present, the burping goes away.

I've never had fishy burps, I take it on an empty stomach with my other meds first thing in the a.m. (I don't get my coffee and 'go-withs' til I get to work)

Default Addressing the Burning Heat..

I have gone thru phases of this and those ice paks are soo cold they seem to make things hurt more!

I use one of those little travel spray-bottles and spritz the affected areas...then let evaporation do the cooling. It's not great but it helps...not too extreme either way. It is a cheap and easy fix should it work for you.

Hope this helps. - j

Lightbulb I think cooling

with menthol containing rubs is more productive and easier to control.

I use Biofreeze alot in the summer (3.5% menthol). In winter I don't need it
much.

I have never met a person who didn't like Biofreeze. It has a huge following.
Not sold in stores however. You can find it on the net now, independent of
a PT or chiro. (these used to be the only sources).
