Sounds like you've never been to a party college; there's even a somewhat vulgar term for it (BT).

Jiggered's doc said "a couple" (which as far as I know means 2), and s/he(?) acknowledges s/he was overdoing it. There's plenty of (arguable) evidence that 1-2/day may be beneficial for some, depending on many factors. I've had doctors say the same - I'm just not interested anymore. Some years ago when my bowel acted up, I quit both caffeine and alcohol, and found I missed the caffeine FAR more than the alcohol. I've since started drinking coffee at timnes (but much less than I used to) and just haven't wanted a drink, so I haven't in ~10 years.

This is hysterical! I managed to miss the particular wording when I read Jiggered's reply! Actually, my doctor is the one pushing it, which is why I asked.
I think he just likes to try new drugs on someone. I'm not ready for 24/7 pain medicine most days, (besides the gabapentin) more like 12/5, but slowly getting there...

When you get there, you get there. I hope you never do, but if it happens, be advised the psychology may change a bit. We're here for you.

I am sorry I did not mean to come off bad about the beers. Everyone is different so it is finding what is right for you.
I just felt that for example meds come with almost every side effect possible to cover themselves liability wise on the fluke that something may happen. Most meds say don't drink with them so why I am surprised a doctor said it was ok even if there was just a small chance of a problem because of liability.

No need to apologize - better safe than sorry.

I'm often amazed at what some doctors prescribe for patients knowing full-well what else those same patients are taking that carries interaction warnings. Those warnings are definitely there for liability, but I think more for Pharma's liability than doctors'. I think they likely base those kinds of things on what they know about a patient and their history, lifestyle, etc.

Anytime I've questioned that (or side effects), I usually get a shrug or "If there's a problem, stop taking it and call me." I even had one doc jokingly tell me, "That's what 911 is for," (but he probably wouldn't have made that joke with a different patient). Pharmacists, IME, seem to be more concerned with interactions than doctors. It may be an educational thing, or it may be that warning patients about such things is more in the pharmacist's purview than the physicians. Again...

Bottom line, we all have a responsibility to read labels & inserts, ask questions, and make our own choices and decisions.

No. I can't drink. It makes my pain sooo much worse. I can have an occasional drink but that's it.

I'm going to say it. Please, don't self-medicate. Drinking can make what you have worse. And with the meds you're taking...

Talk to your doctor. There are ways to manage this pain.

I know how difficult this is.
