Supposed to work on NMDA receptors.

A few people I spoke to said it worked great for allodynia.

I cant try right now because I am on Cymbalta and you cant take them together as it can cause serotonin syndrome. What dosage of Namenda did you try?

I have not tried the Nuedexta. I didn't make it through the beginning/lower dose of the Namenda...and can't remember what that was, sorry. I have a huge list of meds and don't tolerate new meds easily.

The Cymbalta gave me horrific headaches and nausea. Both the neurontin and lyrica just didn't help regardless of how high the dose. But had a zombie state with higher doses of lyrica.

If the Cymbalta doesn't work for you, why take it?

I am now going to try lidoderm patches on the bottom of my feet (which might not work since he feels the pain is coming from ganglioneuropathy in the dorsal root ganglia in the spine). I may try one of the patches (or half) on my leg to see if it settles down the allodynia. I did read on the Wiki site Dr. Smith attached that lidocaine (topical) is helpful for this. We'll see.

I may come off. I keeps me from crying all the time. I was never really cried my whole life but having your back and neck burn all the time will do that to you.

I may start with the Namenda first.

There is one other drug that’s supposed to have no side serious side effects called Neurotropin. It’s been out in Japan for 40 years and been tested here in the US for 10 years. Its amazing it hasn’t been approved yet. It also it’s supposed to help with allodynia.

This is clinical trial but you have to have CRPS to get in. You can request for a compassionate except to try the drug. Again, people have seen good results.

For that lower leg discomfort I'd try behind the knee.
Horizontally, 1/2 patch just above the bend. Hold you hand there
for a while so it will stick well. It will feel cold at first. It is a
rather creepy feeling. Some people have trouble with them sticking, so a little tape on the edges helps. The less motion the better too. The nerves go back thru the knee on the way down to the foot.

If that does not work, let me know and we'll figure another spot.

Lidoderms don't work instantly. It may take 2 or 3 days. But some response is possible in and 1 or 2.

For me when I started Cymbalta I spent 2 weeks in the bathroom so nauseous but my pain doctor encouraged me to stay on it cause that issue becomes less. It did but whoa was it not pleasant.
Bent what dose are you on? I was on 120 from 30. I was just wondering if maybe the dose? I went off this and a few others thinking it was not helping but since I have become worse so now I have no idea what was or if it was helping and not. I am going to look up these few other meds. On a side note even if it helps mentally to cope I will take it. Between high pain, little if any sleep a night, and the anxiety/worry around this well you know.
Hang in there all

I am on 40mg. I know 60mg to 120mg is for nerve pain but it really has done nothing for the pain other then ofcourse relax me more so I dont cry as I am in pain. I am going to go up on lyrica for 400mg to 500 then 600. I really wish I could try the Nuedexta but cant while on Cymbalta. The next logical choice is the Nemenda.

I cant imagine being on 120mg Cymbalata.

I don't think Nuedexta is for you.... it has quinidine in it, which affects heart rhythm:

Its on the QT interval list. If you are taking drugs that are on that list or have heart issues then yes. If not, goto a cardiologist and get a EKG. Domperidone, Amitriptyline , etc can all affect heart rhythm.

Dont discount it. I remeber being on Amitriptyline and feeling like my heart was beating funny and then again others dont have that issue. Its worth a shot.

en bloc 02-17-2012 09:04 AM

No Nuedexta for me. For right now, just considering the lidoderm patches...if my cardiologist approves it.

Also quinidine is a main drug that interacts with others commonly.

Anyone on mixtures of RX products, would have to research it in depth to see if anything would interact (increasing drug levels of other common drugs).

Here is a good drug checker:
http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html

The databases on these types of checkers, can always be out of date or not 100% inclusive.
So keep that in mind. The same is true of pharmacy data bases at your pharmacy.

Been there, done that...this week!! Holy Moly!

I love the site you linked...perfect! I will no longer rely upon the pharmacist...who mentioned slight risk (yellow flag as she put it) of the Ranexa/Cardizem combo, but said should be, "no big deal". This site says Major interaction...which it was.

Even supplements should be checked with other Rx'd meds.

Thanks so much for this link!! It's not going to be just a bookmark, it's going to be on the desktop.
