Toxins, drugs, viruses and vaccines are thought to be the main culprits. But autoimmune disease and other things may also cause it. In some people the cells can regenerate, but if the growth factors are genetically missing, this becomes permanent. Stem cells are being researched for this problem but are not available yet.
