Default Exercise and PN

Are there any exercises that have been shown to be helpful or hurtful?

This is a good question..i got a toxic PN from dapsone.
However i am going to the gym now for a year.
At first I had allot of trouble with my hands and my feet
Hands felt really stiff especially the fingers. Also there is allot tingling in my tows.
But now things feel allot better, the pain i used to have after a workout has been gone.
Also my hand feel better in the morning there is no pain anymore, there is still allot of stiffness in my fingers.
I am still not completely cured but it moving slowly in the right direction.
I am doing
Squats
Squat lungs
Dead lift
The hamer
Bicept
Pullover
chest press end so on
I didnt start with the dead lift right away i was looking for what would work for me and ofcourse i needed to have some fiath in what i was doing.

I suppose this is not possible for everybody you need to develop a feel for what you can do or not

Its really good and very inspiring too, to hear that this dreadful PN can improve.

Aside from the regular exercise, are you taking any medicines or supplements?

I am interested to know, if you dont mind, about your stiff fingers in the morning - because my fingers are stiff in the morning and my right pinky finger has been swollen for years. It was diagnosed osteoarthritis. I have this condition long before my neurological symptoms. Is your stiffness been directly a sign of the PN?

Will appreciate your reply.
Thank you.

For myself, morning stiffness in my knee is due to arthritis and passes quickly. The PN stiffness is more disturbing and becomes much more pronounced as the day goes on. This primarily involves my feet, ankles, and lower legs, but sometimes my forearms as well.

As for exercise, I find walking as much as possible helps improve my mood and maintain strength. Simple yoga definitely helps preserve range of motion, but I am not as diligent with it as I should be. the stiffness is worse on days that I walk a lot, but I think the benefits are worth the trade-off.

Grandma a lot of that would depend on what type and cause of PN you have. One reason why it is important to attempt to ascertain a cause and a type. Someone with PN caused by toxins, or vitamin deficiency might be able do more strenuous exercize than someone with herditary neuropathy, someone with nerve impingment causing PN will not be able to do certain exercizes that someone who had cancer might be able to do now. Someone with numb feet and terrible balance will be limited in what they can do compared to another with shooting pains or burning. PN involving the motor nerves would be more limiting exercize wise than a sensory pn.

... or both. We're doing a no-impact Tai Chi workout for seniors that consists mostly of stretching and balance exercises. There are zillions of these things out there for all kinds of situations (seniors, disabled, arthritis, chair-bound, you-name-it). Some are really good; some are... lacking, so it's worth checking them out in advance if possible. We borrowed every DVD our library system had, and checked out videos on YouTube & vendor sites, until we found one we really liked.

The first few times I tried it, I was stopping myself from falling over (there are a couple of one-legged stretches) but I'm getting better, so it must be helping my balance somewhat.

We're also walking comfortably briskly in the park with ol' furface, but not overdoing, and that helps in building strength & stamina too.

You could try myofascial release physical therapy. The therapist can show you what exercises could behelpful to you personally.

Vitacost Alpha Lipoic Acid & Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl -- 1,600 mg per serving - 240 Capsules
linoleen acid
and i got some 80+ electro acupuncture treatments

There is mot a day that goes by that i wished i didnt have this so.

I wander if HBOT therapie would do any good and speed up the proces of recovery.

I am glad that you are doing good with your supplements and excercise. I have also a bunch of supplements. I hope it works for me too.

I can understand your sentiment. I feel that way too, and sometimes its a struggle to go through the day.

Good luck to all of us!

what you need to do and I am serouis about..you need to find somebody how gives electroacapunctuur that is going to help you.dont expect this to cure you with 15 or20 treathments think of a100 or 150 treatment.everybody is different so healing is for e erybody different.this will work for 30% of the patients but if it works the progress is going to be slow. And go to the gym all depending of what kind of np you have
