The sesamoid bones can crack move, and inflame the ligaments in the ball of the foot.

You can have metatarsal failures, neuromas, compression,
gout, pseudogout, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, etc .

Pain that gets worse with movement, typically is joint/ligament pain.

I would really stop the bike exercise for now. I found that
biking made my feet worse. A recumbant was a bit easier,
but 15min on one was my maximum before foot pain started.

Thank you sooo much for this link...I saw this once and I have been trying to look for it, but I couldnt. Then you gave the link, isnt that wonderful?

I will try to find out if podiatrists are covered under my insurance. But, first, I will try to get an X-ray request for my feet. The reason why I asked what to look for in an x-ray because I thought the doctor would put this in this their request, sort of ruling out or ruling in certain conditions. And I noticed that as a matter of maybe practice, the x-ray technicians normallly ask the patient what is the complain. Just to make sure, I will mention all the possible conditions you mentioned above to my PCP when I put in my request for the x-ray.

Our stationary bicycle looks like a recumbant bike. When you use it, it does not put so much pressure or weight on the feet. Thank you for mentioning that....

Oh, my, no. My wife did have some of those she had custom-made by a podiatrist, but I was actually thinking of the gel-type available at pharmacies. They don't work for everyone, but there's a large variety of types for... well, a variety of prices. :o

The pain I get is very similar to what you can't describe!
I just figured it was from a combination of things, and since I can't spend a lot of time on my feet anyway, it hasn't been as pressing a problem for me. I can definitely appreciate how it could/would be though... :(

Mine, was custom-made too. There was a stall at Sam's who sold this. I forgot the company. its not a Sam's product, it was one of those temporary products/companies allowed by Sam's to "park" in their premises. Anyway, I bought it for $190. It absolutely did nothing!!!!
I tell you, Doc, I also bought that gel-like products from the pharmacies sold by a popular brand (I am not sure if I can mention the brand), well, I am not sure if its helping, but it is better than the supposed custom-made sole-insert. The expensive insert was creating more pain than relief!!!

I think we're all on the same page here. Rhymes with shoals

I am curious when you say "custom made". Do you mean someone was there who took a molded cast of your foot? Or did you stand on a machine type thing that said what # you needed? And then you picked it from the array they had stacked there. If that is true then there is no way that it would work as your feet are different.

The gel like products to put into your shoes worked great for me for awhile and then not so much anymore.

Thanks.

I was been reading the link about the feet pain....the closest condition that I could think of would be metatarsalgia or neuromas but more on neuromas. According to the topic on neuromas:

The pain is typically is the worst with standing and walking and relieved by rest. Some will complain of deep achy pain, others complain of a constant burning. There can be radiating pain, electrical pain or numbness. Many people will describe the feeling of their sock bunched up under their foot or feeling of walking on a lump or a ball. A "twang" feeling, like a guitar string, is another common complaint.

I have all of the above symptoms except for the "sock bunched up under the feet". I wonder if neuromas sensation can go up the legs and be be symmetrical.

When you had the nerve compression due to hypothyroidism, was it on both feet or just on one foot? Did your pain went up your leg or was it limited to your foot (or feet)?

Thank you Mrs.D for your patience:hug:

That's basically what my wife had.

When my hypothyroidism was doing its "thing" it was equal on both feet. I also had it in my hands.

My feet hurt MORE at night when I get off my feet.

Pain that gets worse with standing and walking, is very different, IMO.

A carefully made orthotic from a podiatrist here is over $300.00.
Probably more now. I bought a pair for my son who had some pronation issues, and they fixed it right up. He was walking so much at college he was becoming incapacitated by the pain.

No molded cast for me. I was made to walk 3x on what it looks like a mat that was attached to a computer. When I walked on it, I saw my feet on teh screen - it showed which part of my feet take most weight. There was no numbers, as far as I could remember. Then I had to choose which material to use. I chose the softer ones, which I was told was recommended for diabetics with painful feet.

I knew right after using it for a month that it wont help. But, at the time I bought it, I was just new with my neurological symptoms so I grabbed (desperate) every opportunity which I thought would help.
