I have a slightly low Vitamin D level of 28. I was prescribed 50,000 IU Vitamin D2 to be taken once a week. I've read on this forum that its better to take Vitamin D3. Would it be safe to take the D2 once a week along with a 5000 IU D3 capsule daily? Thanks.

You don't need both. Go with the D3.
And get retested in 3 months. You may be able to reduce the D3 to 1000 or 2000 IU if your levels come up.
