Hello,
I am new to to the forum and would like to know if anyone that has Non Diabetic Small Fiber Neuropathy could discuss what supplements they are taking? I have done some research on what I think should be taken, but I wonder if I need all of it? Of course, I would only start with one and add each supplement as I felt comfortable. I am currently taking: Methyl b12 5000mcg I will be adding B1 Benfotiamine soon and work my way up to 600mg /day Should I also consider R-Aplha Liopic Acid and Acetyl-L-carnitine? Please let me know the amounts you take as well. Thanks! |

Eating more like a diabetic is VERY helpful even when not diabetic. I have great glucose results, A1c, etc every time. Even at home. So that is all fine.
My integrative MD told me to stop all refined sugar, gluten and bad carbs. It has been wonderful for my POTS- Postural Orthostatic Tacycardia Syndrome/Dysautonomia caused by Autonomic Neuropathy. I have peripheral neuropathy also. This diet is wonderful, we eat wonderful foods, (we are foodies!) and I have lost 20 pounds as of today and my nerves are healing. When you have the bad stuff out of the diet, the nerves responds better to the supplements. My list of supplements is VERY long. Three times a day. I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome so I need the best of diet and supplements. I take Alpha Lipoic Acid, 250 mg. Benfotiamine (fat/water soluble B1) lcarnitine, D ribose, CoQ10, Vit D, B12 and many other supplements. I love the book "Minding my Mitochondria." Good book about mitochondria/nerves and diet. Written by a physician with MS that has helped herself walk, garden, ride her bike etc.

I eat failry healthy, I have been working out for 21 years up until 7 months ago. Could you please let me know what you mean by bad carbs? Do you mean a candy bar or empty calories? Can you give me some examples? |

If you google: bad carbs, many articles will come up describing the difference between good & bad carbs.

Carbs like white flour are bad for sure, but I am gluten free so I eat very little of any flour. If I do, it is almond flour or oat flour.
Good carbs/sugars are fruit, some beans and veggies. With good fiber. I have just started making dark choc. candy. I put peppermint oil and coconut palm oil or coconut manna in. WOW, so good. Great on strawberries. And so healthful. I did without choc. for a while and finally made my own. I miss milk choc, but this is so good. Hubby and I love to cook and we have enjoyed learning about the best diet for us. Paleo type. Good for mitochondria and nerves. My integrative MD has guided all of my diet and supplements.

I am also interested all getting all the input I can on this same question. FWIW, all the ones I saw you mention I've seen mentioned on here on various threads. Just not sure that they are all suggested for non-diabetic sfn??? Or maybe they are???

I'm non-diabetic and several of those recommended for diabetic PN are working for me.
If it can't hurt to try it, then it can't hurt to try it. With the caveat that I'd try one at a time to be able to differentiate what's working and what isn't. Doc

These supplements work for many, not just diabetics. I am not diabetic. Nerves are senstive to sugars, blood spikes/ lows, and glycation. Keeping blood glucose level is important for everyone. Good for the brain, heart, vessels, the whole body. Wrinkles/collogen also.
