By all means! Let your Dr. know about the tightening in the throat! It could be an allergic reaction to the vaccine. You still need to complete the series, but ask about taking antihistamines before the final injection. I have severe allergies and the only way I could finish the rabies series was to take Atarax 40 minutes before receiving the last two shots. Other than that, hang in there and hope for the best. How is your daughter doing?

I will! These symptoms are really scary, especially at night! My anxiety still comes and goes and I’m wondering will it ever go away. I won’t say I have difficulty swallowing but it does feel different when I try to swallow like my jaw feels tight and my throat has a full sensation. My daughter is doing okay she only complains of bubbles in her throat, and feeling tired. After yesterday I just keep wondering if this will get any better or if it’s going to get worse. I almost went into the ER because the anxiety was overwhelming and my chest started hurting really bad.

Also how long did your flares last? I currently had one last night it started at around 10pm and then wouldn’t stop until 12pm the next day. It’s kind of calmed down somewhat. My back doesn’t hurt and the weakness feeling is gone but now I’m having some slight pain in my right tricep and some pain in my upper back. It’s really annoying more so now and not like the the flare I had last night.

Sometimes my flares with the neuropathy (needles and pins from the knees down) and my whole body vibrating went on for hours. A couple of times I sat up at the dining room table all night just trying to maintain, and nobody can tell me it was just anxiety. Anxiety plays into it, yes, but this was neurological. I won't review all I went through, it's all in earlier posts.

Recently, a month ago, My husband and I became sick. I don't know, and we will never know if we had Covid-19 as we didn't get tested. My husband ended up with pneumonia. We are both recovered without hospitalization. I only mention this because it was the first time I'd run a fever since feeling really recovered from my rabies vaccine episode, AND, while I was running a fever, the darn auditory hallucinations recurred whenever I was drifting off to sleep! Same thing...heard the phone ringing when I KNEW it was not, so there must be some residual effect. As you recall, my neurologist said the auditory hallucinations were small seizures in a part of the brain as I fell asleep, that triggered the memory of a phone ringing. Running a fever must have caused it to happen again. Since recovering, no more phone ringing problem.

It sounds as if you are having some serious side effects. I hope you recover as successfully as I did. Keep us all posted.

Hi Batbite, recently I have been having waves of anxiety with upset stomach. It’s been really scary. When did you notice your symptoms peak? When did they start to get better. I’m two weeks and 3 days from starting this and I’m wondering should I expect things to get worse before they get better.

I would say my symptoms peaked two and a half months after finishing the vaccine series, that's when the partial paralysis of the pelvis and left leg set in with a great deal of pain. I certainly hope you have an easier time of it. Wish I could sugar coat my story, but truth is, it took two years before things began to really turn around and improve. The good that came out of this whole whole episode is that it made me dig and become my own medical advocate. Genetic testing revealed that I am MTHFR compound heterozygous. I have mast cell activation syndrome. Both of these conditions impact my health and the way my body responds to toxins, pharmaceuticals, fragrances, topicals, and even foods. I've learned to keep healthy through avoidance of anything that could trigger allergic/neurological adverse events. Again, even knowing what I know now, I'd fight tooth and nail to get the rabies vaccine if bitten again. Risk/benefit...rabies = death.

Thanks for the quick response Batbite!! I notice that when the neuropathy and muscle pain leaves I get stomach issues like nausea and diarrhea. My doc gave me hydroxyzine for the anxiety and so far it seems to help really well so I can separate what is anxiety and what are my GI issues. I completely believe the anxiety is from this vaccine and not just me. I think 75% of the anxiety I experience is all due to the vaccine and 25% is my own anxiety contributing to it. I also have been having fast heart beat which I remember ATX-man having similar experience. I totally think the vaccine plays with your sympathetic nervous system too. Thanks for everyone that has responded because it has really helped me understand that these reactions happen more frequently than what is actually published in literature.

I would also suggest maybe getting on some anxiety medication. It has really helped with sleep and just feeling more fresh and alert during the day. @Tobius, I would also really recommend anxiety medication for you since I see you are struggling with insomnia. I am taking hydroxyzine, which is supposed to not be very strong, but it does the trick.
Hi bacc,

Not sure if you’re on here anymore but I noticed in one of your previous texts that you had a positive ANA and that you are taking hydroxyzine. Hydroxyzine is known for giving false positive ANAs on testing.

Cchines, thank you for that bit of information on hydroxyzine and false ANA positives. I did not know that. I always have hydroxyzine on hand to take as needed for allergic reactions, as it is not only anti-anxiety but antihistamine. I do not take it on a regular basis, only in the case of allergic reaction. During the course of my vaccine problems, the neurologist did test my ANA, which came back negative. Thank you again for a valuable bit of information for future reference!

Hi Cchines, Batbite has been a great comfort to me after reading her story and how far she has come. I am so sorry you have been dealing with adverse side effects from the vaccine. I have posted my story a few weeks back. Now 4 months post last shot, I still have muscle aches, neuropathic pains from head to toe. Ongoing diarrhea. The anxiety has calmed down a bit.

But I too have THROAT ISSUES since 12/2019. Throat feels swollen/dryish and overall just bothersome. Started with a dry cough and seen by PCP who simply said it was a virus, to f/u only if I developed a fever...which I never did. To make it worse, the anxiety medications I was put on have listed side effect of (dry mouth) and these made my throat 10 x worse. I now have to control anxiety without meds.

I checked online concerning throat and anxiety can cause muscles to tense and this can cause the feeling of throat thickening. I plan on going to a doctor once the Covid-19 is no longer a threat. If you are on anxiety medications, this may be making the throat worse.

I use throat lozenges and biotene spray to keep throat moist, along with lots of water, ice chips also help. Theraworx is like magic to control muscle aches. If you follow up with a doctor on the throat, please keep us posted on the outcome. I have noticed improvement in my side effects and keeping a positive attitude has helped a great deal. Keep the Faith.
