Default Titer

Not sure how many of you guys are still checking in every now and then! But for those who have gotten titers or who've tried to get titers, what was your experience like? It's been 4.5 months since the bite and the full vaccination series. For a while I've forgotten about the incident but each time my left hand gets tingly, I get very anxious and I would just like some peace of mind that the vaccine worked. When I asked to get the titer done back in April/May (1 month after I completed the vaccination series), my doctor said that I didn't need it, that titers are normally done for vets and people who have recurring exposure to animal, which isn't the case for me. Given that I got my first 3 shots (HRIG and 2 doses of the vaccine) in Israel and the remaining 2 in Chicago, I'm worried that there may be inconsistencies as they were definitely different brands. My doctor said it was fine, it's the same thing, etc., but it would still be nice to have some positive confirmation through a titer.

Hi Hope21! Can't address the titer issue as all my doctors also said it was unnecessary and I never had one done. Just here to say it's been a month since my last posting, and again I'm in a good place where there are no bothersome symptoms, and the whole bat/rabies vaccine experience hardly crosses my mind. 18 months out and counting, fewer and less severe flares. What an experience this has been, and again what a great thing this forum has been. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Default antibiotics?

Hey everyone just checking in. I've continued to have symptoms almost 16 months after the shots.

I'm curious if anyone else had antibiotics around the time of the shots?

Default Rabies phobia uncured by prophylaxis

As sorry as I am that everyone here has had such rough experiences, I am so grateful that so much has been shared. I myself had an "exposure" to rabies (via sick, evil squirrel &#128517 and received HyperRab HRIG in my gluteus and ImoVax into my left deltoid. I already have a rabies phobia as it is (since I was little) and these weird symptoms are ruining my life. I have strange numbness and tingling in my right foot which may have started the night I got the HRIG, but when I got my second vax in my right deltoid the day before yesterday, I began getting sharp searing pains shooting from the tips of my fingers to my elbows and shoulder blade, and that's my exposure hand, too! Too make matters worse, they didn't inject ANY HRIG around the exposure site, only in my butt, and the terror of vaccine failure has me locked in a state of permanent panic and depression. I feel like all I'm doing is waiting for the rest of the symptoms to show up. It just never leave my mind
Someone, please, help me here. Talk me off the ledge.
I'm an otherwise healthy 27yr young mother of one little boy. And I can't bear the thought of just not being here with him anymore. I'm just crippled right now.

Hello, Dizmissjewels, your vaccination experience seems similar to mine in that they didn't infiltrate/inject immunoglobulin around the bat bites in my hand...said it was too bony. The Imovax went into the left deltoid, and the immunoglobulin into each thigh and the right deltoid. You have probably read my saga along with the others here. I am now one year and eight months out from being bitten and vaccinated. Currently, I'm having a very good run of time with very few symptoms, just the occasional tingling in the bottom of the feet, and occasional myoclonus as I fall asleep. I don't know if the rabies paranoia ever will leave. I always enjoyed the outdoors, but am now edgy around our woodpile, and old houses. I still have been back to our daughter's house only briefly one time and couldn't wait to get out of there. I won't stay over night or for any lengthy visit until they have the place inspected for bats. They're working on it, but the old place is still full of holes. In August I went hiking in the woods, and had a really good time with no anxiety over the wildlife factor. But bats....I hope never to see another bat as long as I live. If you are reacting to the vaccine as you described, you may have a bit of a rough ride ahead. All I can say is be encouraged by what you read here. Most of us come out O.K.

P.S. Those who have not come out so "O.K." are still alive and did not die of rabies. They unfortunately have had lasting neurological effects. Not to minimize that...it's not good, but it's not vaccine failure, they're still here.

Default Squirrels

Dizmissjewels, where are you located, (general area)? Searched squirrels and rabies, and the CDC website states that generally squirrels, mice, rats, and chipmunks don't transmit rabies, and there are no known cases of squirrels transmitting rabies to humans in the United States. It would be interesting to hear the circumstances surrounding your bite and treatment. Hope you are doing better.

Default 2 years

Two years out from receiving the rabies vaccine series and I'm still here. Most symptoms gone...occasional myoclonic jerks as I fall asleep (associated with over-doing and fatigue.)
