Hi..I am new to this site. I have PN which my dr feels is caused by the fact that I have type 2 diabetes although after reading some of the posts now I am not so sure. I do take a statin for cholesterol and about 3 months ago was switched from one type to another and it seems my pain and tingling became much worse in my feet. I hadn't put that together until I read this site. I was taking Paxil for about 10 years when I decided to ask my dr if I could come off of it which I did. This led to terrible side effects withdrawal. I went through that in the beginning of July and now I have this unbearable condition in my feet. Could it be related to the Paxil also? I am so confused and upset because I will not go back on the Paxil even if that is the cause of my being in some much pain because of the side effect episode needless to say I am afraid of taking anything now. I just know this is getting unbearable and nothing I do ie Tylenol/diabetic cream is helping. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

It is difficult to say with the Paxil. There are no papers specifically on this family of drugs and neuropathy, yet.

But there is plenty to read about statins and PN. What you have to do is consider if your readings are really high enough for aggressive drugs. Also the new information out on statins causing increased blood sugars, are not so helpful for diabetics either. But after you read up, you will still have to have a big discussion with your doctor about the statin issue. Keep in mind that statins are implicated in affecting memory as well in older patients.
