Default Need help with this final diagnosis

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a while due to many Doctors appointments and tests. I just returned yesterday from Scripps Hospital in San Diego, after many tests my Doctors final dianosis is idiopathic SMall Fiber Sensory Neuropathy that may be due to a whopping Cough Vaccine or a viral infection, he has pretty much ruled out cancer or any autoimmune diseases. They told me there is not much more I can do for this condition other than continuing with Gabapentin and the Vitamins I am taking, this is more than a little depressing, but I am not one to give up, so I'm coming back here for any further advice. I also have another question about Gabapentin, I read somewhere recently that Gabapentin could cause Pancreatic cancer has anyone here ever heard of that as a possible side affect? Thanks for any advice at all. Blessings and have a great New Year, Jan

Hi Jan!

I'm sorry to hear that is your final diagnosis- I'm heading down the same path with nothing turning up in bloodwork so far. Are you receiving any treatment? I'm told that they won't treat without a "identifiable cause" of the neuropathy.

I did some research online and there are places you can go to get treatment. One is an "autonomic disorders" center in Tenessee.

good luck and don't stop looking for an answer!

Sorry to hear of your troubles; I hope you get relief soon. Ask your doctors if other neuropathy meds might be appropriate. I believe Lyrica has been helpful for some Small Fiber Neuropathy sufferers, and it seems that other drugs (like amitriptyline, duloxetine, and others) would be worth investigating. As for pancreatic cancer, I think all that's been observed has been in male rats.
