Cool Nerve biopsy and update.....

Well shortly after I did the integrated nerve block series, I determined my nueropathy had only increased. Though I seem to have less pain and burning and seem to be able to wear shoes more comfortably, my numbness has increased.(maybe that's why I feel less pain) Orthotics actually have been pretty good for the machanics of my feet but doesn't seem to have any effect on the nerves.
I just had another nerve conduction test and it proved my condition was slightly worse. So now my nuerologist suggested I go to Strong Memorial in Rochester NY for a nerve biopsy. (It's only an hour and a half away) I said okay so he's checking to make sure insurrance will cover it. So my questions are.

Is this safe?
Why did he wait 3 years to send me to a nerve specialist?
Is it worth the trouble?
Does anyone know anything about Strongs nueropathy department?
Thanks.
Is it that specialized that no one local does it?

If this biopsy is a sural nerve one... think long and hard about it.
It will only show what you know already. And some people get
permanent pain from the procedure.

type in "sural" to our search here --the link is at the top of the first page on PN--- and there are many discussions.

example:

If your procedure is the SKIN biopsy, it may show something useful and this one is not so risky or damaging.

Type in "skin biopsy" to search for that one.
our subforum has a general informational post about this one:

Glenn talks about it all the time, too. He has lots of experience with it.
