Some people develop bleeds in the brain from daily aspirin.

I'd check with your doctor ASAP. Some NSAIDs do cause drowsiness, depending on their ability to cross into the brain.
And Lipitor is implicated in hemorrhagic strokes too, (bleeding type). So you need to consult with your doctor about it all.

i saw andrew weil on dr. oz last week & here is his take on fixing GERD:

he recommends DGL which seems like a more "natural" approach than PPI. I am researching it for my own gerd issues and will keep you updated.

In Cohen's book on statin drugs he covered a number of natural alternatives. That book was published in 2005. Since then have any of these or any new substitutes proved to be the most effective with the least side effects?

The OTC suggestions never worked for me. They may work for others though.

There is another drug, Zetia...which is RX and non statin. It prevents cholesterol from being absorbed in the GI tract. But then it didn't work for me either. Your body will sense your need and synthesize cholesterol for you.

Lowering sugar and carbs, and avoiding alcohol will do more than remedies IMO. Fructose is a main metabolic substrate and when metabolized in the liver, raises cholesterol levels.

Mrs D thanks for your response. I wasn't sure anyone would respond since I haven't been on this thread for a while. I will eventually try the Zetia and a couple of natural alternatives suggested by Cohen. I'm a one drink a day man and I don't know how much one gigger of gin has but I could give it up just to see what happens. Going on my wife's diet who is pre and formerly was diagnosed as diabetic, however, would be a real challenge, especially since I spend so much time on my back due to the neuropathy and the spinal stenosis. You don't think about the food so much when your active. By the way, I'm not overweight if that makes a difference.

An Update

I had been on all of the vitamins/supplements recommended by MrsD and cut my Lipitor to approximately 5mg per day, down from 40mg for a 3 month period. At 3 months, I discontinued everthing but the Slow Mag and the Ultra CoQ10. I continue to take Caltrate and Glucosamine Chondroitin w/MSM for my arthritis. I take 40 mg of Nexium for reflux but now take it 12 hours after taking my other supplements. I take the Lipitor at bedtime.

My recent cholesterol test (on 5 mg of Lipitor) showed a total of 254, HDL of 118, and LDL of 115. The total is too high but the LDL is near optimum and the HDL is optimum. The CHOL/HDLC ratio of 2.2 is less than half max allowable. I am going to reduce my Lipitor to 10 mg for several months and get another reading. I will also try to further reduce my intake of fructose.
