Default What is going on with me?

Short version: Needle hit nerve in back of outer ankle bone, felt shocks and removed needle and was fine for 2 days. Shocks came back, have steadily intensified across the week, but the part that is really alarming me is I'm getting more and more shocks throughout my foot, shin, and arms (not as intense as the spot on the foot) and visibly twitching calf muscle. What the heck is going on, is this more than just PN/nerve injury, what do I do next to stop this spreading/intensifying?

Long version:

About one week ago I got a PRP injection into my lateral ankle ligaments. When he was inserting the needle towards the PCL, the one on the back of the outer ankle bone he hit a nerve, I felt shocks across the top of my outer foot and he pulled the needle out. It was a very precise spot I felt the shock, like one single nerve branch a few inches down from the ankle bone (along the 4th metatarsal). I didn't feel anymore pain after that and for the next day or two so I thought I was clear and he pulled out without any damage.

Now on the third day I moved my leg while sitting and felt that same shock hit me again. Over the course of the next few days I started to feel more of these shocks, usually while walking. If I press or rub the area I can create the shocks, too. "Ok", I thought, pretty standard peripheral neuropathy which I had read a bit about. Even though it seemed to be getting a little worse each day it wasn't unbearable and from what I read on here PN can sometimes be worse as the nerve heals.

But here's where I'm getting concerned. Over the course of the week I've been feeling smaller but slowly intensifying shocks around different parts of my foot (parts not fed by the nerve that was hit), shin, and even in my hands and other body parts. They're not as acutely painful as the nerve branch that was directly hit but can be pretty painful. Today I started getting involuntary twitches in my calf muscle almost a foot above the nerve stab, I can actually see them, shortly after a few of the worse shocks yet in my foot. My understanding is that nerve pain usually radiates down not up, so I'm really concerned about how these pains seem to be shooting up and now causing muscular effects. Sometimes it's transient sharp shocks and other times it's a bunch of tingling or even tightness in the whole foot/shin area. It seems to get worse later in the day.

What the heck is going on with me?? Is what I'm experiencing normal for PN or does it sound like something beyond a nerve injury now? How is this needle nerve injury spreading and having repercussions through my body? I've heard about CRPS spreading, but I don't have most of the symptoms (swelling, discolouration, sweating, hair loss) and from what I understand the spread is slow, but then again it's only been 1 week could I be experiencing very early stages of this and should I treat it as if it might be?

What should I do next? I told the doctor to give me a call tomorrow, though I'm not sure nerves are his specialty. I just don't want this to progress any further, are there any drugs I should ask about? Gabapentin? I just want to make sure I prevent any further progression.

I've started supplementing with some of the recommended items around here like D, B complex, Magnesium, Acetyl Carnitine, Lipoic Acid, etc.

The nerve he said he hit was the short saphenous nerve also known as the sural nerve, I believe this is it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sural_nerve

Lightbulb

There are some papers from Europe suggesting using Vit C for trauma or surgery to the ankle and wrist to avoid RSD/CRPS.

Some clinics used 500mg a day for 50 days and some 1000mg.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19840748

and this one concerning post-operative pain and Vit C:

Some of our RSD posters actually do IV infusions of Vit C.
If you search "vitamin C" on our forum here you can find those posts:
