I just came across a new list (to me) that lists drugs that cause PN
http://www.mcvitamins.com/medication-neuropathy.htm The most horrid thing that is devastating to me is not only is micardis on this list, I use to take, but so is Hydrochlorothiazide (HCT)!!!!! I have been on this for a couple years and have wondered if it could cause PN and never ever saw anything that said yes until today. this is the first and only time I have ever seen this drug on a list for pn. I am devastated at the moment since I am still on this medication. :'( |

Yes, and they are selling product. I hope that this is bogus. I pray.
Still, it's always been in the back of my mind about this drug, seeing it in print in ANY context puts fear in me. I am trying to get off this drug, weening but I am not off it, right now every other day keeps my bp within acceptable limits. The thought that I am doing this to myself....just tears. |

HCTZ is implicated in drug induced lupus.... there are papers on this. Some on this list are the same as the drug induced lupus ones. Since lupus can cause PN, that is the connection.
HCTZ is also a sulfonamide based drug... which is problematic. The ACE inhibitors all are implicated in drug induced lupus (lisinopril caused mine)...as well as the ARBs like Micardis...however the ARBs are less likely than the ACEs are. Put the generic name of your drug in PubMed with drug induced lupus as a keyword phrase and see if it pops up a paper. Many PN lists differ from each other. I notice that Tindamax is not on this this list, nor Zyvox. The other fluoroquinolones Levaquin and Avelox are not listed either.

It's just scary. All drugs are. I no we need them but it's like they cause more problems than solve. I am more determined that ever to get off this drug.
Of course none of this changes my current condition regardless which if any drug caused my pn or my thyroid, I have it and it's not going away. But I do hope to get off this drug not that it will make my PN go away. |

I always say this but all doctors need to be integrative and learn to use diet, food and supplements for all of the problems possible. THEN resort to a med. if no choice. Nerves are so delicate.

Yes, pharmaceuticals are sometimes a necessary evil. I always ask a doc how necessary is a drug that is being prescribed. Is it essential to my life continuing? If not, I politely refuse it. I am on a lot of medications but not a one that is truly optional. Every single one I swallow, even with its side effects and potential other risks and problems, must be outweighed by the benefit to life, before I will take it. I always want to know what will happen if I do NOT take the drug. How will NOT taking it harm me?
Surgical procedures have the same risk vs benefit. My PN is a result of a surgical procedure. For every surgery I have undergone, there has been some other resulting condition. Drugs and surgery should both be considered with caution as they both present other risks. After reading the drug info it is amazing anyone ever takes any drug. It is always a matter of risk vs benefit. Frightening as it is, it is what it is. |

Im not going read the list LOL. It seems that just about anything except drinking organic water and breathing 100% pure oxygen will give you PN, possibly...
