Results from lumbar puncture usually take 2-3 weeks. In my case, the CSF was sent to the Mayo Clinic and the results were back in two weeks.

Also--

--headache is a well-know post-complication of spinal tap, but, if the headache persists beyond a day or so, one should be talking with one's physician; there are cases in which the opening through which spinal fluid was drawn doesn't close up completely, resulting in a spinal fluid leak which can cause persistent headache as the spinal fluid concentration around the brain is less than optimal.

In a situation like that, a blood patch or other alleviating therapy may well be called for.

How long does it take for doctor to get results? I am on pins and needles for results. Would it be out of turn to ask? My appointment is April 14.

Doctor kept asking if steroid shots in back helped my pain. I basically said no as there was minimal help. Does this rule out MS?

Hi,
I don't know if your doctor has a strict standard that they will not discuss results until your next appt.. If they do you can call and ask the office to send you a copy of your results to your home. I do it all the time. I like to keep copies of everything.

If your doctor does not have that rule, call and politely ask for the results from the nurse or ask to have the doctor call you back. Just ask if the results came in first. Tell them how worried you r and you don't want to have to be worrying until your next appt..

Good luck :)

Thank you for replies. Right now I think I will wait it out until I receive call or appointment. I felt headachy and worn out by procedure for six days. Today is first day I could comfortably go out.

I broke down today and called Dr's office. They said results have not come in yet.

Called again. Nurse said no signs of MS.What other diseases could I have? Nerve pain was a most noticeable start in abdomen. Pain has spread to arms, feet, and sometimes face.

Left side of body is worse.

Neurological MD suggested PHN. I have had shingles.

I have another appt on April 14.

I cannot offer educated ideas about what else it could be, but I'd be guessing at perhaps something to do with diet. I'm sure others here can help you there.

Just wanted to let you know how happy I was just now to hear its not MS. I've been on edge, praying for you that the news would be good. Big whew! :)
