The second week in the hospital, they gave me some of this therapy, but none of it was really customized to my problems. I learned how to get out of the hospital bed and then got home and had to learn how to get out of a temperpedic mattress. Squishy support..not easy. And they taught me how to get out of the bathtub with all the setup you are describing. The chair in the shower, hand shower, etc. But the one in the hospital had no commode next to it and it was arranged backwards from my bath. And it was twice the size of my bathroom. Whole different arrangement. But I've figured it out by myself now and can do it. We did the raised toilet seat but then there wasn't room for the arms, so we had to get a bar to put on the wall. It took me only a few days at home with my own walker to learn to wrap a folded washcloth and then tape it around my walker on the handgrips.

I think it is really necessary for everyone to have a home health visit to at least do a safety check. No one told me about throw rugs, learned that by tripping on one and then catching myself on the wall. It's hard to lift your legs to walk with a broken sacrum.

Another thing is that I'm not really sure how much I need to be up and what it is ok to do. But I'm seeing an otho on Friday and I'll ask about all of this.

Yes, I've got shiny new training wheels now! We ordered one from Dr. Leonard's catalog. Things are not as expensive in that catalog. And It will be with me a long time. It looks as if it's made well. I never would have recovered without this one. It lets me walk thru the house. My stepmom and dad gave it to me for my birthday in Aug. It's what I asked for.
