Like "certified therapeutic grade" essential oils, there's no such thing as "real scientific hemp oil" except as a trademark/marketing gimmick.

Caveat Emptor.

I am going to order some and try it to see if I get the same benefit as mj without the high.

When you see the prices these places charge ($45 or more for 200 mg of CBD) you may be in shock. Keep in mind that if you smoked 1 gram of mj a day, you would get about 200 mg of THC and maybe 2 to 10 mg of CBD. So if you want to just try the amount of CBD typically consumed by mj users, a drop or two daily would accomplish that. But if you want the therapeutic dosages suggested by some sites, you would want much more and the price could get prohibitive. If the demand grows, there will be more effort put into developing mj plants with higher CBD. Hopefully, the price will eventually come down. But when all is said and done, you may still want all of the cannabinoids, including THC, to get the full benefit.
Don't buy fake weed or oil from Amazon. Its like buying a drug because its in a pill form just like Lyrica.

I've been gone for a while and was reading over this post. As a nightly mmj user, I'd like to respond to a couple of topics.

Here's my take on marijuana as a gateway drug. Its not. It may actually be the opposite. Back in my single days, I liked to go out drinking with my buddies. Sometimes we would drink too much and we would decide to do something else along with the drinking. If we chose mj, we would go home and smoke it and pass out shortly later. If, however, we decided to get some coke, (cocaine) we often stayed up for three days straight. The gateway drug in this scenario was alcohol. I never recall smoking pot and then deciding to do coke. I don't recall smoking pot and deciding to do ANY other drug. Is Dominos a drug?

Another gateway is the dealer themselves. When it was illegal to buy, a person had to visit their dealer to get the weed. The dealer may also be selling magic mushrooms as well. If you bought the mushrooms, it wasn't the pot that triggered the purchase, it was the dealer. When you buy pot legally, there is only ONE item to choose from - pot.

I agree that there needs to be consistent labeling and quality control when buying legal mj, but its not as vital as some seem to be professing (imo).
You aren't going to overdose and die, so that doesn't need to be a concern. I have only ingested too much when the mj was in an edible form and it really meant I slept thru an afternoon, which is a waste. Of course, now I know and it won't be repeated. As a consumer, make adjustments along the way.
Is it pure? Probably much purer than the GMO food we are all eating now, that for God knows what reason, companies aren't required to disclose.

That's it for now. On another subject.... I finally have a real Neurologist that seems to know what he's doing! Boy, the hope that comes when you get a dr that seems interested in your problems and actually listens to what you say is priceless!

I can tell you from my own experience that certain types of pot make my symptoms go away almost as if they didn't exist to begin with. I can get up and walk like I used to do. I can do my chores like I used to do. It also helps me sleep and I have major sleep issues. I smoke it. I'm a smoker (cigarettes) anyway. So I'm not all that concerned about the lung issues. And the amount needed to achieve the relief I get is a couple of tokes. So if you do that say 3 times a day, which sounds about right to me given how long the effects last, I don't see that as a major problem. Also, consider what all these other drugs are doing to the other organs in one's body.

We've actually considered moving to a state where it's legal, like Colo., and not just for the medical pot. Some states that have medical
marijuana don't cover PN. Some cover the broader category of, "Chronic Pain" which PN certainly is. Other states are very narrow in what is allowed to be treated. So if you're going to move to be able to use it somewhere like Colo. just makes more sense to me.

Regarding edibles: One can eat it, drink it, use the concentrated form, AKA as Rick Simpson Oil (like hash oil I imagine) consumed in so many drops so many times a day, vape it, etc. There are many ways to use it. But only if you live in a state where it's legal. sigh

I sure hope they legalize it here soon.

Default what you found worked

I'm looking to try what you've done with the CBD. I was hoping for some more specifics of what you've found worked for you - trying to find a base to work from. Things like:
  • what brand CBD you have used and like and how do I know the right type of company to get it from so it's the real deal,
  • any you don't like,
  • is there a strength level of your CBD (been a bit confused on the different websites and trying to figure out a baseline),
  • how much do you take as a dosage,
  • once a day or twice or more,
  • how long before you noticed an effect,
  • have you maintained your dosage or has it increased over time,
  • recommendations for someone starting off

I appreciate your posts and hope that the pain relief has continued. Could use some myself. I've got PN with the cause unknown, take minimum 600mg of Lyrica a day, I can function okay but it's wearing on my body after 5 years. I know you aren't a doc so my questions are more what have you learned from experience. I'll be ordering it online to be delivered to a state that does not allow medical mj but from what I've seen for ordering the CBD as the primary it's not an issue.

If you'd prefer to send the answer as a private email I can allow that through the site, currently I don't, you'll just need to respond saying so.

Thanks for considering.

Default fork in the road

Can't wait to hear about your results ,as I too have IPN

For two years, I have suffered from debilitating PN and like many others, I have submitted my person to science in many ways for all of the testing associated with ruling out underlying causes. I am glad I did it. I have earned my PN badge. It’s not something I ever wanted but there it is. Also like many others with PN, the underlying cause in my case is unknown. I don’t have cancer or HIV and I was told that unless I changed my lifestyle dramatically, I will never be diabetic. I have been tested for everything that the best neurologists can think of and my Peripheral Neuropathy was determined to be idiopathic in nature, aka IPN.

Since the onset of my symptoms, I have educated myself, poured tens of thousands of dollars into it and devoting myself to making it all better to ultimately improve my now diminished quality of life. I have been prescribed the typical: Gabapentin, Klonopin, Lyrica, Cymbalta (in that order) and oorecently compounding cream. I have tried countless OTC supplements & creams, literally countless. I have three shelves of them and routinely go through them to box the ones that I am sure haven’t helped to make room for the new ones that just arrived. I use devices like The Rebuilder and Anodyne, I even own a traction device. I have built an arsenal of the things that help a little but I am nowhere near where I need to be, having my condition managed so I can go on with my otherwise happy, successful, great life. I recently ran into a snag with my insurance covering Lyrica (which isn’t all that great IMO) and while that was being sorted out and I was spending the usual countless hours researching PN in my endless search for relief, I came across a reputable study on cannabis and then the pain relieving components of the plant. Then I read another study and another, all posting positive results in the area of treating neuropatic pain. Why haven’t I tried this?

Everyone is different and what works for one, may not work for another so I don’t know how long this thread will travel but I am at a point where I will try anything and today I am trying CBD, the organic, pain relieving component of the marijuana plant. There are no psychoactive properties, there is no high or smoking but rather just the pain relieving benefit from the plant. If I am willing to put all of these lab-manufactured chemicals in my body, why not try something that grows from the earth? It is legal and available here and there is research to support it so I am going to give it a shot.

I'll post back with my experiences, positive, negative or neutral.

I do find it helpful at times but like with every other therapy, it does not help everyone, tolerance is an issue, there are psychoactive effects from THC and the most effective delivery method is inhaled into the lungs.

It's not for everyone.
