I'm not sure how to feel about this. Kinda scary, actually...especially the remote control aspect. All you need is for someone to hack the system.
Something tells me this is going a bit far. http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2014/...me=1&hpt=hp_c2 I hope the link works ok, as it has several pages all on the same link. |

Fascinating and scary. While I see how it would be a help to those with mental impairments or very complicated medication schedules there is the potential for massive consequences of inevitable malfunctions. It is a rare technology that always performs perfectly.
The remote control and big brother aspect of this is troubling, though hopefully exaggerated in the article. As the next step from the pain pump it makes sense. |

The Parkinson's forum here has discussed this...their medications are complex and need frequent daily dosing..every 2 to 3 hrs sometimes. So this chip technology may help them along.

I certainly can see how some patients could/would benefit, but some aspects of this just scare me. There are so many things that could go wrong, which could be dangerous and even life threatening. There trials for this would like be extensive, but nothing is fail safe.
I'd think I'd watch from the sidelines (with my pillbox) for a while to see how others do first...and they work out all the bugs. |
