Thank you.
Just recently Lyrica failed in 2 studies for nerve pain ...
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...8430RH20120504

Of course they don't mention this failure in their TV commercials.

Also Lyrica is showing a terrible withdrawal syndrome for patients trying to get off it. We have several long threads on NT on the various forums discussing this problem.

AFAIK, about the same as gabapentin.

EPAR [European Public Assessment Report] summary for the public

Quote:
Lyrica has been compared with placebo (a dummy treatment) in 22 studies:

● for peripheral neuropathic pain, there were ten studies involving over 3,000 patients, about half of whom had diabetic neuropathy and half of whom had pain following shingles.
....
The studies lasted up to 12 weeks. The effectiveness of Lyrica was measured using a standard pain questionnaire;
....
In peripheral neuropathic pain, 35% of the patients treated with Lyrica had a decrease in pain scores of 50% or more, compared with 18% of the patients treated with placebo.
IMO, there are two ways of looking at that:
  1. Given the adverse/side effects, difficulties discontinuing the medication, and other issues, 35% ain't great.
  2. Given the amount of difficult-to-treat pain that some patients have to endure with PN, 35% ain't bad—it's bettter than nothing.

Bottom line: I think each individual should be fully informed of all available data/information, and with the help of their trusted physician, decide for themselves.

This is somewhat different than, "Ask your doctor if Progenitorivox is right for YOU!"
