Default Emerging treatments / drugs?

Hi there,

Hope everybody is having a free pain day.

My father (63 years old) was identified with peripheral polyneuropathy (Diabetes mellitus) and can barely walk... he complains about loads of pain (in his life my father was always reluctant to complain about any pain, so I guess the pain is really severe).

As I was searching for solutions I came across this great community and would like to know what are the most promising treatments/drugs which may offer better relief (or even the cure) to PN.

Regards

Edit: His PN is not from Diabetes, as he doesn't suffer from diabetes.

I am a bit confused since your 1st post stated diabetes and your 2nd stated NO diabetes.

Lyrica is often prescribed for peripheral neuropathy. Gabapentin is another drug often prescribed.

Is your father receiving ANY treatment at all for his PN?

I've gotten some relief with acupuncture. You may want to look around the site and read the posts on supplements. Salonpas also give me some relief from the nerve pain.

Default jfbaro...

If he's experiencing burning pain, I think R-Lipoic Acid is worth a try whether he's diabetic or not.

Testing isn't everything. I've been tested for diabetes several times, and every time the results have been negative—yet my body (symptoms) behave/s as if I were diabetic. So I listen to my body, eat as if I were diabetic, and that definitely helps control my symptoms.
