Default Car Crash

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here but thought I would join as I'm experiencing new issues due to a car crash I had three weeks ago.

I've had HNPP for around 8 years and been managing it well since I was diagnosed however three weeks ago I was involved in a crash where I was hit from behind by a guy going 40mph.

Since then I have been experiencing an issue where my hands and feet feel like they are tingling, like I'm using a drill. The feeling lasts for hours at the time. It doesn't hurt or impede my daily life but it is pretty annoying. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas about how I can tackle it?

The doctors are pretty much stumped (and aren't sure its linked to HNPP yet) but I thought I'd ask the experts - the people who have HNPP who usually know more about the condition than the docs do!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Lightbulb

I would try icing your neck once a day or so, for twenty minutes.

This often will help inflammation to damaged nerves quell down.

Don't do it too much or too long. See if that helps. I often use ice packs for my PN issues where I have compressions from my arthritis and bone spurs.

You can also try rubbing in some magnesium lotion on your neck once a day. A little goes a long way.

Morton Epsom Lotion is at Walmart, Walgreen's and online at Amazon.com
It is wonderful and fixes many many things...very inexpensive too. That bottle should last you 3 months or longer.

Welcome Jancis.

Here is a very good reputable site concerning Hereditary Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsies (HNPP). You may have already read about it.

How were you diagnosed. Thanks much.

Thumbs up Don't rush

Hi Jancis, 18 mo ago I had a car crash also. Mine however was a headon and I had a hard shock on the right side.(was hard on the brakes at impact)
My preexisting condition was diabetes. Didn't show any symptoms for four days. First symptom was a burning pathway from the hip to the inner knee. In hindsight I would have kept a log or journal of dates, tests, symptoms, etc. I will not go into more detail about my journey. I have learned that nerve regeneration is a slow and tedious process. I guess that lawsuit and lawyers and perhaps some specialists may get involved. Please don't let anyone rush you to any finality. I hope that Mrs.D's advise will be sufficient to get you back to normal. Anyway, write down how you were before the accident, because normal will be scrutinized. Good Luck, Ken in Texas, USA.
