Debi, My spinal fusion/laminectomy was a little over 8 years. At that time, I was begging for doctor to do asap. At times, I could hardly move in bed without almost screaming. The surgeon did only the worst areas L4-5. He found what he called a "very red angry nerve", as well as cysts going in and out of several of my vertebrae. He said I still had many other issues that would cause pain; but areas he did needed immediate attention. Now struggle with spine as well as legs and feet PN pain. But the one thing I know I definitely do not want is an SCS. I fear that more than I did the fusion/laminectomy. Too many issues with leads moving, infection where battery pocket is done, etc. It was over 3 years ago that I refused the second SCS trial which turned out to really be the right decision since a little over a year later; I had rectum and 2 ft. colon removed due to rectal cancer. The SCS sure would have really complicated the necessary cancer surgery. I'm happy to hear you at least have email contact with your son. For now; that seems to be best for all concern. You sure do not need the "walking on egg shells" along with everything else you have going on. Gerry |
