Default Emg

Hi again,

do you know if it's possible to have the conduction blocks, which showed during my EMG, with anything else than MMN? Maybe with some kind of nerve block in my neck?

I am asking because I wonder if there is a point to make the flexion/extension MRI, which is scheduled for me soon. I'm in a huge stress, as I was denied IVIg treatment (because of insurance issues and bureaucracy here) and I have to look for help abroad and quickly, so I don't really have the time for that MRI - I would have to go to another city to have that done etc, too much ado and maybe not necessary.

Default It's certainly possible--

--to have conduction block with other conditions than multifocal motor neuropathy; in motor neuropathy the conduction block is normally due to a focal demyelination caused by an autoimmune situation, but anything that demyelinates an area of nerve, or breaks enough of the axon, can cause it--most notably local swelling/ischemia due to traumatic injury.

I'd be willing to wager, given how infrequently diagnosed multifocal motor neuropathy is, most instances of conduction block on EMG are due to injury--either sudden or long term from compressive forces in the spine from disc herniation or osteophytic overgrowth.

Hmm I cannot cancel my hotel booking anyway, so maybe Ill just do that special MRI once I have a chance, and I had to fight to get the referral, so.. leave no stone unturned ..
