I am a 34 male who is not diabetic. I was diagnose with Nueropathy due to a GSW in January, 2011. I have had an MRI done. and the results states and I quote.
Findings : " Cervical spine : There is preservation of the normal cervical lordosis. The vertebral bodies are normal in height and signal intensity. There are no destructive lytic or blastic osseous lesions. Mild desiccation in seen at all levels of the cervical spine. The visualized posterior fossa structures are unremarkable. The spinla cord is normal in caliber and signal intensity." Thoracic spine : Heterogeneous T1/T2 hyperintense signal seen in the posterior elements of T10 vertebra, likely corresponding to comminuted fractures seen in prior CT. "There is focal, irreguular and linear T1 hypointense and T2 hyperintense signal along the dorsal aspect of spinal cord at the level of T10 vertebra, compatible with myelomalcia. There is preservation of the normal thoracic alignment. The vertebral bodies are normal in height and signal intensity. Mild disc desiccation is seen in the upper thoracic spine without significant loss of disc height." " Lumbar spine: There is preservation of the normal lumbar lordosis. Tje vertebral bodies are normal in height signal intensity. There are no destructive lytic or blastic osseous lesions. The intravertebral disc space heights are well-preserved. The conus medullaris terminates at the level of T12 vertebra. " Basically I have pain from my waist down to my feet both legs. I can move my legs, move my toes a little bit. I have been given bracelets to help stand and with it I can walk, but the pain is too much. I'm living I feel like my slipping away more and more. Will Cortizone help my muscles so I can walk again. An injection maybe in the knees. Each time I try and stand my knees buckle |

Welcome to NeuroTalk:
Unless you have obvious inflammation in your knees, a steroid shot would not do anything. Steroid shots only reduce swelling and inflammation, of certain types. If your knees buckle due to damage higher up the spine, then I don't think injecting into them will help anything. Please consult your doctor(s) for further advice.

Do not recognize this acronym. I also lost muscle use and had much "fire" in my knees. I had a chiropractor that put a "TENS" on my knees and it reduced the inflamation greatly. Fish oil for inflamation was one of the first things I tried. If you read here you will hear , excercise to tolerance, I ride a pedal bike (Aero-dyne) almost daily until my legs say no more. I also had pain from lumbar to knees, plus PN symptoms. There was a period of muscle wasting that progressed in spite of physical and water therapy. The progression lasted about six months or so and leveled off. I am regaining strength slowly (think geologic slow). Everybody likes to tell their story so tell us what, if anything, happened and your symptoms, and what pain level, meds, etc. Fight against the panic, others have been there and are willing to help. Good luck, Ken in Texas.

What is GSW? gun shot wound??
If so where was that injury - is it same area where you are having the pain & problems now? I don't see anything specific in the MRI results that point to leg issues.. No cord compression mentioned, or any of the usual terms for possible causes of pain..

[QUOTE=Jo*mar;1111041]What is GSW? gun shot wound??
If so where was that injury - is it same area where you are having the pain & problems now? That's all the MRI says. And yes a gun shot wound. I was told that the bullet pass and hit my T10 spinal bone and the bone hit the nervers. that's what the Dr said and also the Dr said MRI means It's not nerve damage but a bruise rather. Can you tell me what this MRI I previously POSTED really means. And thank you |

If your injury involved a lead bullet, and it left fragments inside you, there should be blood testing to see if you have lead poisoning as a consequence. This type of toxin can cause all sorts of neurological symptoms.
