Shocked I was kickin butt, then got my butt kicked!

Hi y'all!
I was kickin butt for a while there... then a few days ago, I guess this ole PN thought I was gettin' too big for my britches and decided it was time to bring me back to reality!

Two days ago started feeling the cement legs coming back on.. knew it was coming but thought maybe I could sneak by if I slept a few extra hours.
Didn't want the new boyfriend to see a full blown "episode" yet
Then yesterday, had some trouble walking to the kitchen, and NO appetite.. so told him to go ahead to dinner without me.

This morning I get to work o.k., and get up from my desk around 10:00, (after sitting for an hour and 1/2, and one foot feels as if there is a metal rod inside it, from the heel through the arch... don't bend it or it will break!) the other one is fine... at that time.

By lunch time, the other one is on fire and has broken glass cemented to it !
I have to walk to the cafeteria, two buildings away to get some soup... and oh, crap, today is the day I teach quilting class at lunch. So, I leave for the cafeteria 1/2 hour before class... get my lunch and get back in time for class. I sit down for class.... we are cutting fabric today and only have five students! No dragging the machine down the hall... yippee!

It's 4:00pm, boss has gone to his 2 hour staff meeting, and I am ready to leave for the day.
My body is aching all over... I feel I am about to lose control of my "intestines" again... so I have to get a head start to the bathroom soon. I am ready to go home, afraid to call in sick tomorrow because I'm out of sick days, now I have to use my vacation days.

Put in a call to the doctor asking for a scrip for "breakthrough" meds... ran out of those last time and forgot to get it re-filled.

This weekend is going to be a rough one. Hope I didn't have anything on the calendar that was important! Charge up the cell phone. Tell the kids they are on their own for meals... and tell the boyfriend all dates are off, I'm bed ridden for the next three days! No babysitting the granddaughter or sewing for me!
I can feel this is going to be a rough one. It hurts in my hands, prickly in my face, hearing is muffled, and even my thoughs are hard to complete today. I knew when I got in the elevator this morning that even though I was pushing the button to go "up", my body was quickly going "down" !
As I stepped off the elevator, I had trouble walking around the corner and staying upright.

Have a good weekend y'all... and I'll catch up on Monday!

Terri

Default Question

I know that my little crappy foot pain does seem to turn on and off at will. Do you know why your body flares up so much?

Default Came to work today... Others are out sick had to!

Hi y'all I'm here, but not for the whole day! Using my cane and in for 1/2 day.
There are three Exec. Admins. I'm #1, #2 is on vacation today and tomorrow, and #3 has doctor appts in the morning today. Someone has to be here for the morning. I forgot #3 was going to be out for the morning.
So, I pulled out the cane, put on a sweatshirt and jeans (it's Friday, I can dress down) pulled my hair up, put on some lipstick and came in smiling!

Oh, remember my new red car? Some ...... so and so..... backed into it in the parking lot at work yesterday! smashed in the bumper! I have to call it in!

Oh, Jak: your question: I know that my little crappy foot pain does seem to turn on and off at will. Do you know why your body flares up so much?
Usually it is in response to stress... but this time it is not in response to stress, I thought I had all the stress in my life under control.... (the car being banged was "after" the pain was already coming on)
I'm just familiar enough with the PN that I know the "signs" of it coming on now. I know that when I start to feel "exhausted" all the time, or when I start to feel like my feet feel like cement... then next comes the pain... and the more exhausted or cement like I feel, the more pain I am going to feel.

Each "episode" is worse than the last. It seems the pain creeps up the body higher than the last time. It's no longer in the toes or the balls of my feet. Now it's in the arches of my feet and in my legs. My hands are starting to feel the shooting pains and sometimes I get the pin pricks in my face. Because this is only my fourth or fifth "episode" with this, I'm not sure how long it will last. I just know that now I'm more calm as they come on,,, which makes them easier to endure. I know they are not going to be permanent, and I know I can't fight them. If I just rest, sleep, let people take care of me through them, It is much easier to get better.
I am optimistic in thinking I will be back to work on Monday, but if I set that as a goal, maybe my body will cooperate!
Better get my work done so I can get outa here in a few hours!
Have a great weekend y'all!

Default Classic presentation

This seems like a classic presentation for an autoimmune neuropathy. Have you had the work up for autoimmune neuropathies?

Seamslike, your description is so spot on I had to comment. I call the precursers to the pain like the cement feet and legs "the omen of fire". Hate them! Hope you are feeling better soon.

Default Three or Four episodes?

With each one the neuropathy is progressing? Since it's affecting your face as well...Well I'd call and get a HEAD HONCHO of the neuro dept at the best hospital you can no matter how far! And soon?

Explain the 'progression' when making the appointment...I bet you will be fit in and on the road to LOTS of testing and all. Beats the alternatives...

When I was first admited to the ER during the 14 hour wait to be seen... the rage went from above the ankles to the knees. Took the month prior to go from the toes to the ankles. The fingers were started to be affected the week before the hospital and it was half-way to the elbow. First diagnosed with the PN, Took a year and 3 neuros to get the CIDP diagnosis....So please eliminate the auto-immune aspects ASAP. The options aren't fun at all! The numbness is now stopped at the buttocks for the legs, the elbows for the arms.

Rest for now tho, See if there is improvement and first thing Monday CALL! With auto-immune issues, the sooner treated the less damage done.
