I've found the culprit.. isotretinoin. The most toxic substance I ever took. I took 2 courses of it to treat acne. I had to interrupt the 2nd course, because I developed severe depression. Now, my question is, how can I stop isotretinoin from destroying me years after I took it. I read about supplementing with l-carnitine and vit. E, I wonder what else I could do?

If you can believe any of the stuff on U-Tube, there is supposed to be de-toxifying capabilities in a group of slimy plants. Chia seeds, Aloe-Vera plants skinned and sliced up, etc. The plot was that the slime trapped and passed toxins that otherwise would be reabsorbed into the system by the small intestine. If you could believe, Good Luck Ken in Texas. P. S. Do tell how you found the culprit, testing or process of elimination, etc?

Hi Ken. I haven't done any testing in this direction; I wouldnt know what to test for. Rather, I became aware that accutane can have those effects, which I didnt know before. It was damaging enough to cause a huge depression, and I can't think of many other things which could cause havoc in my nervous system. It was the worst/most potent subtance I ever took. With regards to those plants, well.. has any of that ever helped anyone? Unfortunately, I haven't found many entries on accutane/isotretinoin on this forum, or any other site that I trust, so that's difficult to tell. I have been diagnosed with MMN and I'm supposed to be treated with IVIg's, but the doctors didnt know about iotretinoin, because I myself forgot about it. I wonder if IVIg's are any good for me.

Accutane is now used as a chemo agent to kill certain cancers of the retina. If it kills cancer cells, it can kill normal cells. All chemo agents are non-selective.

Accutane can cause pseudotumor cerebri:

Accutane can cause destruction of the intestinal lining=Crohn's and ulcerative colitis.

It is a very toxic drug. It really should not be on the market for acne!

As far as the IVIG goes...if it works for you that suggests an autoimmune issue. If it does not work..then autoimmune is less likely. It is really a "try it and see" type of treatment.

Accutane can also damage carnitine pathways; such a damage can present as peripheral neuropathy (http://emedicine.medscape.com/articl...clinical#a0217). People damaged by it recommend supplementing with L-carnitine, which I haven't really been doing, but will do religiously now.
