Default Complete numbness

Hi all, am new here and am at my wit's end. I have diabetic neuropathy and it has gotten very bad in the last month to the point where I cannot walk much and have fallen and have lost my balance. I do not have any pain whatsoever (wish I did), just complete and total numbness. I hate the idea of having to use a walker but just don't know what is left. I have heard of a treatment using intravenous Alpha lipoic acid which has had success in regenerating nerves. Has anyone heard of this?

Hello Angelsrose, sorry I haven't heard of that treatment. I do know how helpless and hopeless you might be feeling. Use these feelings to drive you to do positive actions. That was what I did earlier in life when I was out of a job and the bills just kept on stacking. My first question to you would be "Have you been in tight glucose control"? It is known that if you know the underlying cause, that must be addressed first. Second question might be"Did this start in your toes and progress over time, or did you experience some trauma(physical) that caused fast onset? Either way, learn to search and read and tell us more about your situation. Lots of folks out there looking for that shot, but so far, good nutrician, excersise, understanding your bloodwork, and a #3 washtubfull of patience have been the stalwarts of the battle. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

i know that ala is given intravenously in germany to treat diabetic pn. i googled it & there are 2 sites (among many) which discuss it in some depth. one is the univ of maryland & the other is memorial sloan kettering cancer center. i would love to try it since it has a good track record in germany & seems to be a standard rx for diabetes. i don't know any docs who use it in nyc but i'm going to ask around.

please keep us updated if you are treated with it & i will post any info i find.
