I have been diagnosed with bile reflux which is completely different than acid reflux, I guess my main question is can this bile reflux be caused from my small fiber neuropathy that was diagnosed 3 years ago? Does this now mean that my autoanomic system is now being affected, or could there be another cause of bile reflux. Gastro Doctor says bile reflux will always be with me, that the only way to control symptoms is with diet and medications. Thanks for any input.😊

I have some of the same problems, meaning the reflux symptoms. I have mostly sensory polyneuropathy and small fiber neuropathy. A couple of years ago my GI doctor sent me to another GI doctor that specializes in GI related autonomic neuropathies. I had the manometry study, it showed extreme acid reflux. I have to, just as you, fallow the diet, and take Proton Pump Inhibitor medication. I had the gastric emptying study, showing gastroperesis.

My neurologist said this is related to autonomic neuropathy and therefor also related to SFN.
I would rather not take the meds, because it inter fears with absorption of a lot of nutrients. But for now, I have to take it. I have tried to reduce the dosage.

How is your SFN symptoms otherwise?

My SFN symptoms are pretty bad. I have full body SFN and have been on Gabapentin for over 3 years. I don't know if I have Autonaumic SFN, I've never been tested for that. Mostly my symptoms have been full body sensory. About a month ago I started having upper abdominal and back pain and nausea. I had an upper endoscopy done and they found I had bile, not acid, reflux in my stomach. I had 2 surgeries in my past that could be causing my bile reflux, one was gallbladder surgery and the other was a Nissen Fundoplication, but because I have SFN I get nervous about whether after 3 years my sensory neuropathy is progressing to affect my autonaumic system. I'm spending thousands of dollars trying to get answers and some relief from this. I am very sorry to hear you have gastroparesis, how long have you had SFN?
