I have been seeing an integrated doctor to get some different ideas on what could be possibly causing my peripheral SFN. I have both sensory and autonomic symptoms. They are not fun but there are others on this board with worse. I had food allergy testing (blood) done on 95 different foods through Meridian Valley Labs and my results were quite remarkable. I'm sensitive or allergic to a lot of foods. The foods I'm highly allergic too are Cow's Milk, Whey, Beef, Chicken, Egg, Egg White, Barley, Gliadin, Gluten, Malt, Wheat, Candida, Pineapple, Almond and Sunflower Seeds. This is the avoid range; I have many more in the moderate or low range.
My Doctor diagnosed me with Leaky Gut. Anyone else experience this or given thought that this syndrome could lead to idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. I'm struggling with meals and craving sugars something terrible. Also I'm continually loosing weight and don't need to loose anymore. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Since you reacted to Candida.... are you doing anything to eradicate that?
There are some good cleanses out there like NOW Candida Support. Sometimes the overgrowth of Candida dumps toxins into the system (like aldehyde byproducts) and these cause the nerve symptoms. If you reduce the Candida load, you reduce inflammation also. Then supplement with good probiotics to replenish your GI tract from the damage from antibiotics and the Candida cleanse. Kefir is a good place to start with this. Some food families also cause PN type symptoms, especially burning. The nightshades are examples of that. I get terrible burning from potatoes, for example.

[QUOTE=mrsD;1122348]Since you reacted to Candida.... are you doing anything to eradicate that?
Yes, I have. I ordered the NOW Brand Candida Support, Ortho Biotics Powder as a Pro-Biotic and my doctor recommended Metagenics Glutagenics Powder for the Leaky Gut. I'm just wondering about the Gluten Allergy/Sensivity as a cause of neuropathy. Once off Gluten, how long does it take to see results or diminished symptoms. Tony Idiopathic SFN |

I also took a food sensitivity test like that and came back sensitive to a lot of things including casein, the protein in dairy. Because I don't skimp on dairy, I thought I was onto something. I immediately stopped all dairy for several weeks and felt no difference at all...other than craving cheese.
I then started looking for into the testing more and realized the the science behind it (IgG antibodies) is controversial. I also read more about casein sensitivity and realized I had no normal symptoms of it. I can drink a huge glass of milk and feel absolutely fine. I have no basis for saying one way or another whether the testing/diagnosis is valid or not, but you might want to do some reading just to understand the arguments. http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/...e-science-say/ Although eliminating all foods I was supposedly "sensitive to" did nothing for me, that doesn't it mean it won't help you. Everyone is different. If it's causing you to lose weight you can't afford to lose, though, be careful. Last edited by janieg; 02-05-2015 at 03:47 PM. |
