Question Bosses and neuropathy

Hi everyone, need to vent I'm so frustrated right now. Diagnosed idiopathic pn 2009 and previous employer very understanding with my working hours, contracted for 30 hours and regularly work long hours away from home usually starting 3pm till 11pm (8 hour day) then do an overnight getting a sleep in the persons home starting again at 7am till 3pm (8 hour day) next day and have never lost any work time due to my condition which I'm quite proud of because as we all know sometimes its bloody difficult.
New management came in a few years ago and now they are asking me why i cant do long hours and are fully expecting me to work from 9am till 11pm (14 hour day) do an overnight and start again at 7am till 9am or possibly longer! The boss is looking at me like I'm an an alien when I'm trying to explain I get very tired and I'm just managing to cope with what I do just now and that I usually have to go to bed when I get home as I'm exhausted!
Anybody else been in this situation and if so any advice much appreciated.
Linda

There are so many jobs that involve standing/walking that I have no idea what I would do if I lost my current job. It scares me just thinking about it. I'm sorry you have to deal with a boss who doesn't understand.

I don't know what kind of labor or discrimination laws you have in your country, but it sounds like you may need to look at those.
They may be trying to force you to quit..

If you have drs notes and restrictions on file...
or perhaps they need an updated note from the doctors?

What country is this? Slavery has been banned for quite some time, in most Western nations.

Hi,
I am in Oz and most companies once they hear Union.. Back off. You hopefully have access to union solicitors as part of your entitlements. Personally I would start off by explaining to your employer that you work reduced hoursdue to your medical condition and you cannot do more. Gage their response. If it's negative, document it get a doctors certificate and consider stress leave/union consult.

I was in a Union for 15 years here in Oz and this was the usual route for members.

Hi Aussie99,
thanks for replying, one of the most annoying things is I'm not on reduced hours I just work my hours more evenly eg (8 hrs working, 8 hrs rest period, then 8 hrs working) rather than (14hrs working, 8 hrs rest period, 2 hrs working or more) so still works out the same 24+hours away from home. Having worked these hours for the past thirteen years should work in my favour too.
take care
