Default Question on Curcumin

Hi All,
I haven't been on in a while but as usual I have a question. A friend of mine with lupus is recommending Curcumin. She takes 750mg a day and said it is really helping with her pain. It is expensive but I'm willing to try it.

Mrs. D. I saw in the search that you thought this was good. Do you still think it is a beneficial supplement?

Will it be ok to take with these other supplements: Liquid COQ10, krill oil, vit D, probiotic, multivitamin, sublingual B12 (every other day). I started every other day because my homocysteine levels are low. I found through research that if your B12 is too high that can happen.

I also take, tramadol twice a day, synthroid, and amitriptyline.

What do you think? I'd really appreciate any info Mrs. D. or anyone else has to offer

Dr. Blaylock recommends curcumin for a lot of things, and he suggests opening the capsule and mixing the ingredients with olive oil for better absorption--but be careful because it can stain the surface where you're working if you spill any of it

Yes, curcumin is an anti-inflammatory. It has poor absorption.
But there are two new forms available... CurcuGel 500mg and LongVida brand that were used in studies that help with that.

I've noticed recently that the expensive LongVida brand has licensed out to NOW which lowers the price x3 making it available to more people. It is nano technology that improves absorption.

This is the Amazon offering:

There is a long comment on this link comparing all the good brands of curcumin available today. The Bioperine or pepper extract mentioned is also thought to affect prescription drug absorption...so people using drugs should be careful with any Bioperine product.

It is still more expensive than regular turmeric or curcumin, but the enhanced absorption is easier on the stomach and far more useful to the body as a whole. So you need less, and will get more absorption from it.
Some people get GI upset from curcumin left in the GI tract.

There is a study out there now showing curcumin useful for inflammation of the blood vessels, making it helpful for vasculitis perhaps.

Thank you to both of you. I have to find out what brand it is. I've been reading that some are putting pepper in the product. It is suppose to enhance absorption. I am going to give it a try. Hopefully, it helps ease the pain in my legs from this neuropathy.

Joano do you take it and if so do you just drink the olive oil?

Thanks again! You helped me make my decision.

I didn't know about this new form of curcumin but will look into it next time I order as both my husband and I take it--he has myasthenia gravis, and Dr. Blaylock recommended curcumin for that too, 3 times a day.

You don't have to use that much olive oil--you can mix it in a tablespoon or a serving spoon or a small cup, but it is messy and it does stain stain.

I just checked iHerb, and they don't have NOW's CurcuGel yet. Maybe they will have it by the time I need to order more--course, there's always Amazon. I'm really glad to learn about this new product, Mrs D!

I've been taking Nutrigold's Tumeric Curcumin Gold for a couple of weeks now. It was one of the good ones referenced in the product review Mrs. D mentioned.

So far, I haven't noticed any difference at all as best I can tell. I've developed a problem in my left elbow that I think is yet another instance of tendinitis, and I was hopeful it might help at least that, but no luck yet. I'll take it until it's gone, though, and hope some goodness kicks in at some point.

I am going to order the new NOW product from Amazon as soon as I get $35 for the free shipping. Regular curcumin upsets my GI problems too much. I am hoping the new form will give the results with lower doses.

Curcumin is a free radical scavenger...so it would be a slow onset.
It is one of those things you have to use for the long haul, rather than the short sprint.

Hi All,
I wanted to update on my trial of Curcumin. I'm taking Terry Naturally CuraMed with clinically studied BCM-95. It is suppose to be the best absorbed form of Curcumin.
I've been taking it for about two weeks now. I can't say it is helping with my neuropathy but it is working very well for other things.
I was having a lot of pain in my knees and ankles. I'm not kidding so far it feels 90% better.
It's expensive $50 for 2 months. If it keeps working I don't mind paying that. I had really started to have trouble with stairs due to the pain in my ankles and knees. If you have arthritis or some other type of joint problems this may be worth giving a try.
Hopeful
Also forgot to say no stomach upset at all from this

I know a lot of folks won't think of checking ebay, but I did. For 60 of your Terry Naturally CuraMed 750mg supplement can be had for $42.99 and for $77.77 you can get 120 of them. That's if you feel they are helping you, you might as well get them as reasonable as you can.

I sent you a PM regarding something on your post.
