Default New hope for neuropathy patients? Probably too far off...

Hi

Came across this..hopefully it will be useful for some of us in the future. Scientists turn blood cells into neurons. Article found at www.iflscience.com

Thanks for the link to the paper Lara.

It looks very impressive to me.

Of course there is always a lag between basic science and better clinical outcomes but I think that it may be a big step forward .

most likely its referring to stem cells. They have done it on animals, but not likely on humans in the coming years, years of testing is required as well. I think it will benefit people with neurodegenerative diseases more than to neuropathy, since there are so many causes of neuropathy(not many are known). Some systemic causes like autoimmune and diabetes can reverse something like neuron transplants, because the damage caused by these diseases is still present even if the neurons are replaced. If they come out with multi-pronged treatment, that would make it more effective.
