Just a real quick question about my SFPN, mine was mostly sensory for about 3.5 years, now most of my body aches along with all the sensory problems, I'm in agony with my hands, deep bone aching pain along with terrible numbness. Thanks for any responses. Jan

I've read articles and also read posts where people said they had this type of aching.

My legs and arms ache horribly some times....just deep down bone pain or maybe its muscles ?

2 of my pain mgmt. dr's said they have not heard of this before but didn't dismiss it. I did ask my PCP about it last year and asked if it could be fibro since I've read that some fibro patients wind up having a dx of SFN which is what I have. He said it was possible and that the drug combo I am on would also be what they use for fibro.

I'm curious to see what other posters have to say.

Yes, it is the primary reason I am on heavy pain meds. The feeling is like iron rods are being hammered on inside my legs and it feels like it is coming from the bones. But sensory motor neuropathies play tricks on you- it is hard to tell what is a pain signal gone awry and what is due to weakened muscles trying to carry a normal load.
I also have extensive arthritis in spine, hips, knees, hands, neck, so it all gets mixed up.
Definitely a deep aching feeling, often with sharp shooting pain. I have been on record with this type of pain in one way or another for 15-20 years. Before the CMT diagnosis (2010) we thought it was varicose veins, I have had phlebitis, but I always had the feeling I would eventually lose the use of my legs, something just wasn't right and was getting worse.

I'm not sure I would describe my aches as "deep aching bones", but I do ache in my arms, legs, back,and hips. Especially after any physical activity. I wake up aching and go to bed aching, or with sore, cramping muscles (I assume) almost daily. I would best describe it as the way one feels after they haven't exercised in a long time and they finally hit the gym!! Most days I feel like I have lifted weights with my arms for hours!! Keep in mind this is relatively new to me. I have my first neuro appt. Monday, so obviously no diagnosis yet. I will keep you all updated. I hope you get some relief soon.

I wonder if maybe constant pain and overload is stimulating other parts of the nerve into being aggravated. Nerves are always talking to themselves and each other chemically. Perhaps intra-articular and other larger branches of the nerves pick up up on the complaints coming from the small fibers and decide to complain too....

Hard to tell but I think a lot of it is weakened muscles or even healthy muscles trying to carry the load. Obviously, that is hard. And it is easy to overdo especially if you are on pain medication. There is a fine line.
