Default Ankle broke: Numbness, diabetes?

I broke ankle 3 weeks ago. I did not realize I broke it, but it did not get better so I ended up going to podiatrist today. Dr recommended surgery and I have date set. He also said I have numbness in foot and he could not stand to walk on ankle as bad as mine.

I had fracture of tibia and fibula.

I have had previous tests for diabetes and they all come back borderline like A1C 6.2. Could anything besides diabetes cause numbness?

My legs are completely numb, I have continued to walk on severe sprains, wounds, glass in feet, etc. anything that causes peripheral neuropathy will cause numbness, in my case it is Charcot Marie Tooth, hereditary neuropathy, but there could be many causes.
I delayed getting a diagnosis for close to 15 years because I was afraid I was a diabetic- that was the only cause of neuropathy I knew of. I have learned that there are many more causes of numbness.
That sounds like a terrible injury. I hope that you recover well. It is so hard not to overdo things when you can't feel normal pain, and so easy to make things much worse.

ive broken my ankles a few times on both feet. i also didnt realize until i saw the black and blue. my feet are also completely numb. my breaks were no where as serious as yours are. that is pretty hardcore to break both the tibia and fibula. im guessing they are going to be putting in a plate or plates?

I would highly recommend locating a good orthopedic surgeon...

Years ago I broke my arm above the elbow and could not tell where my arm and hand were. That is numbness. I wish I had had surgery as now one arm is a little longer and a bone ball forms that takes years to wear down. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.
