As far as I can see "Penetrex" is used in two different ways.

One refers to a now-discontinued antibiotic - see http://www.drugs.com/mtm/penetrex.html for more on this.

The other use refers to a product which is apparently made by a company called Penetrex (http://penetrex.com/).

From a look at the Q&A section of that site, there are lots of superficially impressive-sounding "sciency" words there, none of which make the slightest sense to me as a non-clinical biomedical professional.

I suggest that you check out that Q&A section and then decide for yourself.

I suggest you read the 1 and 2 star reviews before deciding on this expensive ointment. $19.99 for 2 oz is alot of money.
http://www.amazon.com/Penetrex%C2%AE...r&pageNumber=1

You can get Biofreeze in 4 oz tubes for much much less.
This works very well for nerve pain:
http://www.amazon.com/BIOFREEZE-Pain...reeze+gel+4+oz

Chiropractors and physical therapists have been using Biofreeze successfully for their patients for many years. When I was in PT years ago, my therapist started me on Biofreeze and I have used it ever since. It has come way down in price and easier to find lately for everyone now.

The Penetrex looks like from its ingredients to be for musculoskeletal pain, and not specifically for nerve pain.

I tried it once for a bad case of tennis elbow. Did nothing.

I agree with MrsD on the BioFreeze, although I have to say, I haven't tried it for any of my SFN discomfort yet. I use it for all my "aging athlete" pain and have a huge pump dispenser of it.

Thanks Jo*mar,

Any 'no quibble' return policy makes at least an initial investment worry-free, financially. The next question is if any of the ingredients would irritate your PN.

Dave.

I am a bit hesitant about Penetrex.... Arnica for example is designed for the skin, but not for deep tissue use.
So this penetrating vehicle may not be suitable in the long run for arnica.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnica

I tried arnica years ago....NOTHING...did nothing for me.

Biofreeze has reformulated its product recently, so you may find various complaints about that on the Amazon reviews. I think they also took the blue coloring out of it, but I am not sure.
I still have an older tube around here. It is especially good for burning sensations at night. My PT used it mixed half and half with the ultrasound gel, for my treatments. It allowed her to ramp up the power for better penetration into my hip tendons.

Thanks everyone. I should have waited but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. I will report back with how it goes.

Default Penetrex

Does anyone know if Penetrex is safe and effective for facial nerve pain? Is there anything better for facial nerve pain?

Thank You
