I get the same
Canagirl,
I am new to this forum, rather new to PN. And have been away from the computer for a few days. But, I get exactly what you describe. Sometimes when I stretch my leg out, the calf and foot will cramp and even my toes will start to curl under. Can happen on either leg. And it seems the cramping gets "stuck" forever. This can happen even when I don't purposely "stretch" or "flex" my leg muscles. OMG ! Pain. Off the Scale. Today I received a note from my doctor, saying to be sure to keep next appointment to "discuss abnormal lab" results. I have a couple of weeks to go. Will let you know what he says. Hang in there, kiddo. From a Newbie to PN. Altho, now I think I have had symptoms longer; they are much more severe now. |
I get the cramping sometimes too. It seems to occur during my sleep. Very painful, like a charlie horse.
I always thought they were somehow related to my damaged motor nerves, because whenever I have the emg/ncv test, the emg part is tolerable, but the ncv part- when they put that needle into my muscle, brings me right off the table with strong charlie horse pain. |

I thought I was crazy being like this. I have been unable to exercise for over 25 years, yet my legs (especially) and arms are rock solid all the time. I even wake up like it. It is very disconcerting. Dave. |
I believe the medical term for this is symptom is "myotonia". Unfortunately, just like all the other symptoms of PN - knowing what it's called doesn't do anything to help you resolve it. :(
I had some issues with this early on - made it hard to drive when the leg muscles wouldn't relax while I was trying to modulate the accelerator. Gabapentin did resolve this for me. |
FWIW, I've succeeded in getting rid of my muscle cramp problems. I'm absolutely sure it was due to calcium issues because of dietary and supplement changes I made.
While doing some reading, I found this article on muscle cramps that I found helpful: http://www.drgangemi.com/articles/cramping_style/ ___________________ |
